Can anyone tell me whether adding a sports exhaust to a plus 4 really makes much difference to the noise. I'm costing up what it will cost me to replace my 2003 4/4 4 seater wth a new Plus 4. This is one option I'm not sure about. I'm willing to pay for it only if it makes a significantly more meaty sound !!

Any thoughts ?

Bit sad I know .....and I cannot afford a roadster before anyone suggests that !!

This isn't based on personal experience because mine is a 4/4 not a PLus 4 and I was looking for a power increase first and foremost with the sound coming second.

However, what does seem clear is that systems for the + 4 such as Rob Wells' Librands set up include a straight- through silencer, better- flowing manifold and reduced cell ( ie 200) cat. When the same kind of set up is fitted on the 4/4 it does give a much improved sound so logically the same should be true on a Duratec engined +4

recommendation: buy a tractor, love the sound
I like my 4/4 to be as quiet as possibe, like a ghost, just wisper by and no one knows I was there.............

I have a Librands exhaust on my 97 +4.
It definitley sounds good and I think it adds power.
Go for it!

I have a stainless straight through side exit etc and the sound is addictive BUT I think I also am warming to the quiet stealth side. It's like when I hear/see a large bike with that silky scything sound go by. M.

When I first got my morgan last year i was fairly convinced that a fruity exhaust would be applied soon. However, 15k miles later most of my motoring is done at 70mph for legal purposes (or 60 it that is what is required) and I am glad that I havent changed it from the standard. cos it's noisy enough as it is. Listening to Steves car (A11OGE)at the curborough taster day, it sounds great but I'm thinking it might be less easy to live with.

I have decided to review the situation as and when my existing one falls off, although I am tempted by a freer flowing manifold and a K&N airfilter. Bit I'm thinking a slightly larger bore pipe with the regular amount of silencers would be the way to got forward

All the info seems to suggest that this is also the best and most convenient way to get a power increase- that was certainly the case with my car (4/4) and I think Nigel Puttick found the same.
I went for an ITG fiter rather than K&N because the tests showed it had better flow figures. I also changed the 'stock', ie 400 cell, cat for a 200

Having had the Librads exhaust on both my Aero and the Max, I am impressed with the quality and sound of they offer.

When we met up at the factory in March, Easter drove me up to the lunch venue in his 4/4 Sport, with sports exhaust, and I loved the crackle, pop and slight overrun sound it generated. Personally, if you like your Morgan sounding a little more sporting, it is a must.



ps - nothing sad about asking questions like this - choosing the colour and options is almost as fun as actually collecting the car!

go for a sports exhaust, sounds better, and feels like it revs quicker + when my wife is talking at me I rev up and say "I can't hear you..."

Well that has certainly sold it me ... though I find roof off and no windows achieves the same !!

Seriously though, thanks for the inputs, it is now firmly on the "must have" options list.
