I must say I've just had a decent time with a no-fault insurance claim with LV
Happy days if it's a no fault claim or its repairable through their authorised repair centres but trying to get anything like a reasonable settlement and valuation in the event of a write off is another thing
Even the onbudsman contact disclosed his frustration when trying to mediate
To cut a very long story short
LV's initial settlement figure was laughable - about £7K less than any trade valuation - this is on a car costing £26K new and it was 1 year old with low mileage so not an expensive car
OK, first offer is always low so I challenged
3 weeks later I got a letter through that they were sticking to their valuation for a load of reasons that didn't make any logical sense whatsoever and saying that the only way to challenge is for me to provide them three independent valuations
They gave me a set of criteria that had to be included in the three valuations
So I did
3 weeks later they wrote back saying they didn't accept any of the companies I had used for the valuations
So I wrote back asking them what companies they accepted
A month later they wrote back with a small list which included all three of the companies I had used and submitted
That's when I got the ombudsman involved
It took 6 months to get a reasonable settlement
