Good evening from the caribbean.
I'm thinking of restoring my Morgan, and just read a interesting article about some who did this at Tudor motors, though it appears they are now closed.
Ok to my question as if I do it myself here on this island, I might have some issues and time wise will be a two plus year ptoject, so anyone can recommend someone/company, plus what would I need to budget for this, excluding shipping etc.
I have a 1967 plus 4/4

Hi Diesel

I guess it depends on the extent of what you want done, and what level of finish you're looking for; thus how much specific Morgan Expertise is required. If you're looking for concours, of course you should entrust it to a specialist.

If it is essentially repainting and re-trimming, might you not find someone on the island ? You could get any parts you required shipped to you by, say, Melvyn Rutter (who has a vast stock of parts for old models). I would imagine that you could save yourself €5 to €6K by not shipping to the US or UK and back.

A quick trawl on google showed a link to a place called Unique Ride in Curacao - OK it seems to specialize in US custom cars, but then custom places often have good skill sets. Even if it's they're not suitable, maybe they could point you towards suitable artisans. It would have the added benefit that you'd be contributing to the local economy and making friends and useful contacts with folk on the island.

Good advice from Giles. The huge advantage of Morgans is that they don't really require much in the way of marque-specialist skills, they are of very simple construction.

The problem with restoring old cars is that will easily swallow many thousands of pounds in costs that will quickly exceed the market value of the finished car, so anything you can do to reduce those costs will help. And as Giles says, using local artisans and supporting your local economy is a great thing.

This is all true, in fact it had always been my plan to this here, as I have already done a lot to her, ironic I would not trust unique ride but that is just the level of the labour force and what is paid to them.
What got me worried was reading about the wire which is trimmed into the steel wings etc to help keep its shape, and thus electrolysis, but all still good points, and yes you are right I would be at least 6-10k in shipping.

Many thanks for bring me common sense.

Wow, having a Morgan on a Carribbean island, that's paradise plus!
There are several Morgan specialists in the US that can restore parts on an individual basis, they do not have to have the whole car, For parts the same applies and for your 1967, Victoria British is an excellent resource (I'm a happy customer). You would save a lot on transportation costs.
Good luck on your restoration.

Perhaps you could post a few photos of what state the car is in at
present. How extensively and originally correct are you proposing to "restore" the car?
As mentioned, these cars are simple beasts and can be brought back from the brink with a reasonable amount of skill and $$$.
Do keep us updated of your progress......
cheers
