Gliptone is fine. However, it helps to apply a leather sealer after re-colouring. This is not always an obvious recommendation from the suppliers.

In an 11000 mile Ferrari I had the same issue. I believe it comes about because as in home furniture, much leather is split with two skins being made from one, and then a surface painted on the result.
In contrast my last Volvo had leather seats that looked as good as day 1 right until the end after 10 years and 120k miles.

Howard has hit the nail on the head. Leather isn't what it used to be. Despite frequent treatment with Gliptone Conditioner and Scuffmaster my bolster eventually split.

Are the bolsters individually removable or are they all a part of the seat back as a single item?

I'm using leather wax once in a while to keep the leather smooth and flexible. +1👍

You can protect the leather with products like this: https://www.colourlock.com/all-products/care-products/leather-shield-150-ml.htmlDescription from the website: '.... New leather should be treated with our COLOURLOCK Leather Shield within the first three years to protect it against traces of wear and abrasion, as well as discolouration from clothing (dye transfer). The driver's seat (entry bolsters of sports seats and high support cushions) usually begin showing typical signs of wear over the first three years. Leather Shield will prevent this. Treat the driver's seat every three months, the rest of the leather every six to twelve months. ...'

I think one of the offenders for producing marks in that position are the side buckles on some jackets. And the toggles on zipped rear trouser pockets.

Always worth reviewing what you wear in the car. I created similar wear in our old car through a wallet in a hip pocket. Nowadays, except for short journeys to the pub or similar when I may wear chinos with limited pockets, I always wear trousers without pocket zips (plenty around with velcro) and the wallet goes in a cargo pocket on the thigh. is banned from wearing trousers with zipped pockets in the car too.

Are the bolsters individually removable or are they all a part of the seat back as a single item? It takes a brave man to consider doing this. It will come off with patience but refitting to an acceptable standard may take some time. My son in law has stripped and refurbished several Golf seats to deal with wear and non functioning heater pads. He is braver than me and if anything is more meticulous.

Crikey. That's quite hard to believe.
