Ok so ive had the dash off and a good look. A 7.5a fuse burnt out on the second setting. Can't see anything on the circuit board. But it does have quite a few active components and some relays... so for example the fan switch definitely powers a relay or two... tbe gauge of the wire tells me that. Hurrumph. I still have a warranty so back to Krazy Horse we go. And if i can't get it fixed within a week we'll be risking France with if as is....

This talk of bypassing the circuit board... does anyone have a circuit diagram? Or even a circuit diagram of the dash aeea?It must have relays for the heated screen and heater fan. Although I dan see a small power tansistor on there too. But I am struggling to understand where there are other transistors and an ic. There's something to run the speedo too as the speed sensor runs from it. Hmm

Totally unrelated to the dash electrics, but I've been troubleshooting this afternoon. A couple of days before the MOT, when checking the lights I found that the offside (rightside) main beam didn't work. Two sharp blows with a flat palm got the light on, I checked the connections inside the bowl, and it stayed on for the MOT.
But as we all know, cars don't heal up, and a flat palm strike never cures anything. And so when I tested the lights today I found that I had no main beam on the offside. Initially a flat palm strike brought it on, but later in the day this didn't work. I rechecked the connections and substituted the bulb. No power. Tracing the blue/white tracer back under the front wing leads to some bullet connectors above the wing stay. The main beam feed was really loose. In fact the bullet sleeve was way too loose, and so I replaced it. And suddenly all was well...... I include a bullet to connector fit on my routine spanner check, it's easy to spot a loose one just poking about when I'm either under the bonnet, wings or underneath. I have a pair of bullet pliers that squeeze the connectors into the sleeve so it's easy, but suprising how loose they work over time.

Just an additional note on this topic. A friend had a similar problem that turned out to be unrelated to the dash electronics. It seems that the seatbelt warning light is on the same fuse. The fault was eventually tracked down to a bare wire near the seat connection. It was occasionally touching the seat rail and shorting out.
This will not be the OP's problem as his fuse is blowing when he turns the switch for the heater fan to high.

Update... awesome day on the rallye de charente today. Was absolutely fantastic.
Only down side is that I have now the dash module failed completely so no speedo or fan. The fuse went on heater fan setting one halfway round. Tried another fuse in case it was on a threshold. Now blows without the fan so looks like a trip back using sat nav for speed and no blown heater... SWMBO not happy!
