I first thought it was beginning of the end when Charles was deposed but the present team appear to be running the business with great efficiency. The only worry now is overproduction. I can now go into a dealership and buy a new car off the shelf. I'm surprised that the availability has not yet trickled down into price reductions of the second hand cars. Surely it has to come.

Can't see the video (UK only?), but I do remember this interview. Or maybe it was another where he mentioned his initial reluctance to going back to 3 wheeler production. As I remember in his view Morgan should aim for modernity with new models (does anyone remember the EvaGT ?), not nostalgia.

Whatever made him change his mind I don't know. In any case, he didn't survive the M3W. Funnily enough, in folk culture he is the only person blamed for its rushed start of production. Considering the never before seen amount and frequency of engineering blunders by MMC after his departure, one has to suspect "Sir Charles Morgan" was a very convenient scapegoat, fantastically achieving this: no recognition from putting the M3W into production; blame for putting it too early.

I think the price hikes on new cars will keep second hand prices high

A Roadster with decent spec was £41K in 2005.
Now I think it's about £20k more for a similar spec.
So 30% plus rise in twelve years. Given that most mileages are tiny there's no wonder that residuals are good.

I would have to spend another £25k to trade my Roadster for a new one. Why would I do that.
The risk is that new Morgans may pass the sellable barrier but they haven't done so yet.

But are brand new Morgans flying off the shelves and can you get a substantial discount like you can with most new cars (except perhaps Porsche)? I want to get back into Morgan ownership having had a 4/4 and a Plus 8 some 20 years ago when they didn't seem over expensive. I know my 1987 Plus 8 is still around with some 30,000 miles on the clock. The 4/4 went to Australia so I can't trace it.

You will be lucky to get any sort of discount on a new build. Sometimes in November/December the factory will offer a raft of extras at no cost, and so that's the time to order a new build.
If you buy a dealer stock car you might get a discount over list price, but that will depend on the dealer and the car and the time of year. Why would anybody pay list price for someone elses specification? That's why many buyers pay the factory asking price to get exactly what they want.
You will get far better value for money if you buy secondhand. I saved £7,500 on my (3 year old/5,000 miles) Roadster in 2008, and £8,000 on my (One year old/12.000 miles) Plus 4 in 2013.

Well at least that proves they suffer some depreciation - but not much!
