This is just a feeling, I've not done any before and after testing and logging.

A good point Callum, but I can't help thinking that the oil is operating outside it's designed limit when the box is fully up to temperature, does anyone know what the oils' design parameters are? Even if it turns out to be running too cool, and is quiet, surely there are other oils and if not, regular changes (as is now specified by the factory) should reduce any breakdown to the oil?

Test Results from Emil on the bevel box oil cooler...
I have tested the bevel box oil cooler system for about two weeks, about 500 miles each time I went out.
The test was twofold, the first part was not to turn the pump on until I acquired some miles.
Each time I went out, I extended the first part of the run. Here is what I found:

You can probably go 25 to 40 miles and not need to cool the oil, last test I went 35 miles before I turned on the pump.

Temperatures were 125/130 degrees. At that point, I left the pump running, temperatures stayed at about 130 degrees on a 75 degree day. Did not exceed 140 degrees, even in traffic.

On one of the days I did a lot of hill climbing on back roads, 50 to 75 miles an hour, and about 80 miles up the New York Thruway. The faster you go, the cooler the oil, forced air does it every time.
Back in traffic, temperatures went up about ten degrees, that was an 85 degree day.
Highway temperatures never exceeded 140, and in traffic, at 30/35 mph, temperatures never exceeded 145.

I am sure that as the ambient temperature goes up, so will the oil temps. I would think that on a 95 degree day, your oil temp would be around 150/155 degrees.

This system has exceeded my expectations!

Helen - Thanks for those results, does that also correlate with a reduction in noise from the bevel box.

Very interesting. Yes does it correlate with the whine and what temperature does it get too without using the cooler over a long last run - in other words how much of a reduction did it give you

I guess my question would be at what temperature does the whine start? And did turning on the pump cancel the whine? Also are you mounting the devil box cooler behind the engine cooler? And are these numbers with the engine cooler and place?

Emil here,I`m not Graeme but I met him at The Morgan convention. He started me thinking. I already have a engine oil cooler kit which keeps oil temp under 180.It took me a few months but I got it!Test results are:On a 85 deg day in trafic 30 mph 140/145 & at 70 mph 130/135 deg. The system now holds 30 oz of oil.I just finished a timer so not to run pump more then you need. When the pump is running it will change the oil in the box 6 times in one minute, one once a second...Kits are available now.More video`s soon.Clearance does not seam to be a problem, the lower part of bell housing sticks way down .I am always open to suggestions,we all need help. Bevel Box:Emil here. Just got back from a test drive with the timer in operation. Here`s the end results:85 deg`s 150+ miles timer function is 3min on 6min off oil temp stayed around 145/150 deg.Now that`s oil temp after cooler on its way to the box.Yes the cooler is behind the engine oil cooler,it seams to have enough free air going thru it.For those of you who saw the video of under side of pump, that fitting only hang`s down about 1/2 of a inch I now include a shield that covers and protects AN6 fitting and oil line. Now to address oil not getting hot enough to evaporate moisture. You have to realize that the box it self will be hotter do to all of the metal and alum case parts retaining some of the built up heat.Remember we are cooling the oil & reading oil temp not box temp.Foot note; I use to run a fuel altered; blown alcohol 540 BBC.Hot Rods From Hell show circuit, after three rounds of racing, the oil would be full of moisture to the point of looking like a milk shake.I had oil pre-heater in the pan, it would raise the oil temp to 140 degs in about a half an hour. That was enough temp and time to burn-leach off all the moisture and bring the oil back to its original state.Any and all input is welcome, we are in this together! Our engine oil cooler kit will keep your oil temp at 178/182 degs all the time, no more valve train noise, and your Morgan acts like it`s 50 degs out all the time.Go to our web site and read the Tutorial on our front page from Michael P.EMIL!!!
