The plus 8 had its MOT yesterday and as its now 5 years old, the oil/brake fluid/ coolant changed. I also did a complete tightness check on all major fastners. During this check i was very suprised to find a serious crack in the cast gearbox mounting. http://tm-img.com/image/yRj1

That's quite a substantial crack!
What's your plan...replace or repair? (It's an Aluminium piece right?)

Its an aluminium casting which should not be experiencing a lateral load, so my plan is to talk to my local dealer on monday and see what they say. My plan A is to replace it.

If it is bolted it should be an easy change. Could be welded too.

Wow that's quite a serious crack, any idea whats caused it?
Hope you have a lot more luck getting a replacement from Morgan than me, I've been waiting two month's for a new speedo due to the LCD failing and still no sign of it!

I wonder if that has been caused by a flaw in the original casting  As you say,I can't imagine it it would have been subjected to undue lateral forces. I'm sure MMC would be interested to know about it so they can check if it is a 'one off' or more serious;I do hope that they then agree to fix it (and quickly). Also, if the items are on back order, it might be an idea to have it welded (once MMC agree to repairs) so you can run in comparative safety 'till the replacement arrives..... James

If the casting is a poor fit between the chassis cross-members it would be subject to tensile stress which it's not designed to take.
Looking at the way the crack has opened up that would be my guess.

any sign of physical damage from an impact?
Is your car manual or auto, I can't remember... I ask because I don't recall seeing that piece under Tarka when it was on the lift at Williams, but then I might not have noticed.
