Can anyone with much more meteorological prowess than me suggest either a brilliant weather forecasting app or web page that gives an idea of approaching rain..?

There are so many out there that are variations on a theme, and I'd guess that most gain their info from only a handful of sources, but what does the team think about the accuracy (if you can ever be accurate with weather) of these..?

The ideal would be the F1 rain forecasting sites, without the thousands it costs to use them..

Just got halfway through the lawn and it's tipping down..

And if anyone suggests the wet stone on a string app, or the seaweed it's curtains, ok..?

I use the RainToday website and App. Gives a good forecast of inbound rain ove rthe next hour or so. I think you can pay a subscirption to get a view over a longer time horizon.

Just google rain radar. I use the second hit which has animation. Really useful.

Net weather.

I use the BBC Weather Appp, which can be set specific to your locality. Seems fairly accurate.
Anyway, forget seaweed, cows sitting down or any of that stuff; you could just ask Eric, he knows everything.

You'll get as many opinions on this matter as there are days in the year.

In my experience there is no substitute for reading the weather charts combined with refering to the Met Office website.

Reading weather charts isn't difficult once someone has explained it and allows one to determine the likely accuracy of a local forecast.

My impression is that the BBC's forecasting has become less accurate of late due, I will wonder, to them moving their contract with the Met Office elsewhere.

As regards apps, I do not use them either for sailing around the Welsh coast nor for day to day stuff. I find them insufficiently reliable.

Remember that the weather forecast is only a prediction.

Agree, RainToday is generally reliable.
I also have Weather Pro, it gives an hour by hour forecast over the next few days.
The BBC weather and the Met Office apps are both irritating and I deleted them both.

I use "wind Guru" for sailing. It gives an hour by hour forecast for your specified area.

I find that the Norwegian site yr.no can give a pretty accurate forecast hour by hour for our local village and seems to be able to do this for anywhere on the planet ---Try it out! its Free!!!!

I use the same rain radar as Tim (Hamwich).
Plus Met Office charts like David.
Occasionally one other, which a pal of mine found the most accurate when he was Port Captain at the refinery in Pembrokeshire - Magic Seaweed (mainly for surfers but gives good weather charts and I know you said don't mention seaweed but if it was good enough for him... smile ).
Note that rainfall radar uses data from the air weather radar and can show rainfall which does not reach the ground.
Oh yes and Robbie's suggestion gets a thumbs too - recommended in Outdoor Photography as being more accurate than the UK Met Office.
