Yes, definitely! Although since I've been an independent consultant since the age of 46 I guess you could say I've done it.

If Ryanair are making £532m half year profits what are the rest of the carriers making ! I bet Mr Ryan doesn't fly with his own airline !

I know they are... and I feel sorry for those forced to use them. Anecdotal evidence from colleagues is that when a proper door to door fully adsorbed cost comparison is done when booking anything from 4 to 1 week in advance then there is little or no difference in cost between any of the cheapie airlines and BA.

The "sucker" prices advertised are only real, to typical business destinations, when booked way in advance, impossibly so for most business users.

Fortunately none of the cheap airlines fly from Southampton, so it is easy to justify LHR and BA. If FlyBE offered a Southampton / Frankfurt or Zurich service I'd use them. But they do not.

As a matter of fact - Michael O'Leary does fly on his planes - I have seen him on a few flights - yes, I do use them as they fly suitable flight times to Gatwick to visit daughter and grandkids - usually on time and at a price less than a third of Aer lingus or BA
It's a bus so you shouldn't expect a limo!!!

Cheers!

Robbie, you hit the nail on the head.
Flying is the new bus, but people are still convinced it is as flying was 50 years ago, for the rich and romantic.

It isn't.

Until the passengers accept that budget air travel comes with no more service than the bus they will be grumpy.

Evolution, or something.

I think everyone who travels by budget airlines knows exactly what it is

There is no illusion

Young people don't remember the time when it was glamorous or expensive

But when people prepay and book flights in advance and plan trips, they would expect some notice instead of 50 flights cancelled with a days notice without there being some extraordinary circumstance such as adverse weather conditions

I'm now hearing on investigative reports that Ryanair have known this was coming for a very long time as shortages of pilots was getting worse

I letter from their operations director to all pilots exposes their potential implosion

I bet they gambled on it not making the headlines so readily and I wonder if they thought the attempted terrorist bomb might help bury their news

Poeple who were told of their flights cancellation were offered a refund or rebook without any word on the fact they are also entitled to compensation

It's only after today's hounding by the media that O'Leary has had to come clean on compensation

I think one of the real triumphs of Ryan Air is their expectation management.

Their customers are expecting a fairly grim experience, but accept that, so long as the flights are cheap and by and large on time.

Customers expect flying with the likes of BA or air France to be a decent experience and are then angry and disappointed when it turns out not to be so.
