Happy Birthday Brian, Calvados is my favourite part of Normandy, not being a Dandy Mog we usually stay a la ferme near Villers Bocage, my favourite spot is Omaha Beach, never crowded even in high season just park up and walk for miles along the sandy shore. If you like seafood I can recommend La Marine in Arromanches

Thanks Richard, we were there yesterday to see the museum on the Mulberry harbour and by a great coincidence, that was where we ate. Only moules'n'frites for lunch, times are hard, money's short!

The museum is interesting, with a good slide show and an excellent film show. Having previously visited most of the big museums, we are visiting the smaller ones this time. Though we also want to re-visit the tapestry before we leave.

Like you, we do like this part of France and the welcome given to members of the Liberator nations is legendary. It's also nice to see Union flags, and Usa/Canadian everywhere.

All in all, a very nice break.

Cheers
Brian

We visited in 2004 for D-Day 60th and because we were in a green Defender we were treated like liberators,[there were more jeeps in 2004 than 1944...] been back once or twice every year since. Bayeaux is always bustling, my son likes the junk shop at top end of main drag, sells cross bows and gothic fantasy stuff but the shop keeper is a character, if you loiter outside he will drag you in and try to sell you a knuckle duster. Falaise is worth a visit though its a bit of a trek, there is a restored castle were a certain William was born, and a WWII museum in a former cheese factory, place seems to have fallen on hard times of late and many shops have closed down.

Brian, Happy belated birthday! I've just got in from working today so missed the earlier notice. Hope the sunshine is brighter where you are than it's been here.
