Are my 2005 car a 4/4 or a +4?

I ask these questions because I have some challenges when I order parts for the car!

Is it only the engine that is different? (I have a Duratec engine)

What about the frame and width of the car?
I have measured the width of the car to 1550 mm. The width of the frame under the car is inside 885 mm and outside 985 mm. This is probably equivalent to +4. (I think the 4/4 is equivalent to 1500, 835 and 935)?

Are there other things that show the difference between a 4/4 and a +4?

does it not say which it is on the bonnet badge?

Or the mogs log book/identification papers.

What engine capacity?
Chassis number?

Neither of which are a guarantee, but might get you closer...

DaveW will be along to provide the definitive answer, but as far as I'm aware, all current trads are based on the same chassis, so body tub width/length is the same.

Overall width varies according to the wheel widths used, as the wings are cut to suit. Most 4/4s have 5" rims with 165 section tyres, most +4s have 5.5" section wheels with 185 or 195 section tyres.

Most 4/4s have 1600cc or 1800cc engines, all +4s have 2000cc engines.

I bought a set of Panhard Rods for 4/4. They were too short and did not fit into the frame. Had to order one that was for a +4. In other words: there is a different frame on a 4/4 and a +4 in 2005!

And, my documents show that the car is 1500 mm wide. Not 1550 mm as I measure.

I believe there are few difference between a 4/4 and a Plus 4 Duratec of that age.

These are the ones that I know of :-

The cut of the wings to suit the tyres determines the width.
The diameter of the bore in the block to reflect the 200cc engine difference (the bore/stroke is square on a 1.8).
The diameter of the inlet/exhaust valves.
The 1.8 has a throttle body mod to prevent the butterfly fully opening to limit performance (that can be removed ).
And a huge price difference!

I’ve fitted the Mulfab panhard rod with no problems to my 1.8.

That points to a different crosshead, rather than chassis. What size wheels and tyre do you have?

When I purchased my 4/4 April this year, it measured 100mm (4 inches) narrower than the Plus 4

To me it is really noticeable in the gap between head lights and wings ?

I do prefer the plus 4 wider look from the front
