SWMBO has one of these exercise watches, a GearFit 2. You wear it and it records things like the number of steps you do, your heart rate, your calories expended, exercise data etc. Does a number of other things which I havent yet got round to recording. Anyway, out of curiosity, I borrowed it and have been wearing it for 24 hours. My belief was that I was reasonably fit and active for my age. But so far it has told me that I have been inactive for an hour and has buzzed to tell me to get off my backside and do some exercises, that I have done just 940 steps today and 3000 yesterday ( swmbo does 5000 per day so I will have to delete the record of my activity before I hand the gadget back), used just 750 calories so I am marginally ahead of breakfast, and had a pulse rate between 48 and 79. No exercise recorded at all, and no flights of stairs climbed - we live in a bungalow. In short, couch potato. So what do I do? What would you do? Take the watch off, clear the data and hand it back tom SWMBO ignoring the message. Or buy a watch for yourself and get off your backside and put some work in?

Put it on at bedtime get a grin on your face and see how quick she tells you its rubbish and dumps it . END OF PROBLEM back to your normal life .

I've got a FitBit, I find it very useful for ensuring I get a decent amount of exercise. I aim to exceed at least one of my goals every day -
30 Minutes Active Exercise 10,000 steps walked 20 Floors climbed
On Sunday when we went to Bicester it was an easy 11,000 steps. Yesterday, working from home was a bit trickier, I had to walk to the top of the garden and back a couple of times in my lunch break to get the floor climb count up.
Generally, I find a day doing gardening and DIY jobs smashes all three targets quite happily without faffing around going to a gym.

I've had one for about 18 months (Garmin) and find the results interesting. Mine also does heart rate and that is quite interesting to monitor and how exercise over time lowers my resting heart rate.

Being a train driver I decided to see how inactive I was in work. Turned out I was more active on a working day than on a day off! Bugger, wasn't expecting that. It's certainly changed my attitude, now averaging over 10,000 steps a day for the last 5 months and find myself looking for a chance to go for a walk.

I thought I was fit - until I got my little dog this Feb. Now I am walking 25 miles a week plus. My aerobic fitness has improved immeasurably. I feel so much better for it. I do go to the gym as well - to keep muscle tone.

I started to play this game when the "Company" issued me with an iPhone 7s, but got board as I don'y always carry the accursed "Company Phone". But it got me thinking and I may well get a wrist band thingy. Or an iWatch if I can swing it past "Management"... Anyway, three to 4 days a week I go down to the farm to bring the horse in from the field, in total this is about a 1.5km walk up and down a hill. It includes walking the field to collect the horse poo.... In total it is about 7500 steps! So as long as I get up from the desk and move about 10,000 isn't a massive challenge. So, to answer your question Howard, get one of these..... https://www.apple.com/uk/watch/but only on EE..... I'll wait for Vodafone!

I just rejoined the Gym and have played a bit of tennis after a long absence after doing my back in It is probably nearly 2 years since I last went the gym or picked up a racket Anyway the Gym made me get on this machine that senses, weight, mass, body muscle and fat and water content and I had rather a pleasant surprise as my trainer looked at all the resultant data and said he had never seen such a low fat index It stated I had the body of a 34 year old (I’ll be 50 next Feb) Beers all round
