Well the day started OK, up at 3am and in car by 3.3am. Eurotunnel was fine but as we pulled into the services outside Gent a whine was audible from the engine that was engine and not gearbox/clutch/rear. No warning lights or leaks so press on.....got 35 miles further and a very loud "graunch" vibration was felt, not effected by clutch, but it did stall the engine when we came to a stop. Turns over very slowly like a flat battery but no "click click click", just slow. Will not fire.

Currently with AA (Renault garage) who were so helpful and have secured the car. AA been excellent, but I fear spigot or clutch release failure....or worst.

Had oil and pressure, no leaks or warnings, slight rubber/hot smell, but no metal on metal tapping/screech.

Now drinking beer at Nurburgring in a hire Fiat 500.....oh well, tomorrow will be a new day.

Speak to the clever boys at Borghi - some of these sound familiar and it came down to the air conditioning compressor.

Rubber hot smell.
Graunch/screech sounding like a V belt slip for about a minute or two.
Runs smooth

If it is this then apparently there is some rubber stuff inside the compressor unit that shears,

It runs at engine speed.

Worth a check ?

Well the car was delivered to Morgan in Belgium and Stephen called this morning to discuss his findings. They did start the car and it ran, but smoke sook came from the front with a horrid noise. His suspicions are ceased water pump.

Car will be recovered to the UK in a covered transporter to my local dealer for full diagnosis and repairs.

To the chap and his wife in the Burgundy S5 car outside of Gent, thank you for the number and support.
To the local chap in Belgium who stopped to help with the loading and local morgan dealer details, who owned 2 Morgan's, thank you for taking the time and caring. Sorry I did not get your name, there was a lot going on at that point.

Still not a disaster as I did make it to the ring that night in a Fiat 500 1L car, that also did an early morning lap as well.

Hi Mark, amazing you have seen a Morgan and a Morgan owner here near Gent ! I live here and rarely see a Morgan in normal daily traffic...must be once a year grin2

ofcourse at some meetings you see a few.

pitty for your problems.... but if it is only the water pump , it won't be a big deal.

Alternator looks like a good shout. Found a vid on YouTube last night that was exactly the same noise. Car still in Europe, but should be back this week, then we can have a proper look.
