Raphael and his wife Odile have a Bed and Breakfast at their home at La Farlede near Toulon. They have a lovely garden and a pool and the sea is not far away. They own two older Morgans, a 4/4 4 seater and a Plus 4 under restoration, and a Honda powered three wheeler. They are a great couple and we very much enjoyed staying with them. Anyone interested can contact Raphy by PM he is atalante83 on TM

Having a Frenchman visiting me on Business last week, our idle chat was obviously how much i liked France and touring with the Max.

He explained to me although now living and working in Lyon, his favourate region is Poitou Charentes, suggesting that the area around there and mentioning la Rochelle is favourable in cuisine, the locals and particularly the weather, he remarked that the weather remains a reasonable temperature all year round and maintains a good temperature due to the high pressure coming in to the Bay of biscay....Has anyone ever experienced this area. shades

It's a lovely area, and he's not kidding about the food in La Rochelle. Even by french standards it has more than it's fair share of great restaurants. Mind you, he's being a little economical with the actualité in telling you that the bay of Biscay brings nothing but lovely weather....But you've got a roof Dean , so no worries.

Regular holiday destination when I was a kid, no burning desire to re-visit, prefer Tarn or Gers for sunshine or Suisse Normande for rural retreats, but don't take my word, best thing you can do is go take a look-see,

We have a house inland from La Rochelle. Lovely area. Very rural and unspoilt but with lots of hidden gems. Including some lovely and inexpensive restaurants!

As for weather - well it's usually about 10 degrees C higher than East Anglia, and usually very sunny in the summer. Except this year - wettest and coldest for some time.

Go and spend some time there and see. La Rochelle is lovely. But don't ignore the stuff inland around Angouleme and Limoges. Bordeaux is good but very busy and terrible traffic!
