Me neither - for each job, the correct tool.

Mind you, I do like hearing stories about people voluntarily paying extra tax on cars they hardly use - it must reduce the taxation burden on the rest of us. hide

when laying up a boat the usual advice is to brim the fuel tank because that means less moisture containing air. The problem being that the alcohol in the fuel absorbs water from the air. But then boats are outside.

I have never bothered with cars and never had a problem. Nor would I bother with blowing up tyres. Again no issues and we have had two toy cars in winter storage for the last couple of decades

The one thing I wouldnt do is to start up the engine regularly. I did that on a Stag and knackered the bearings because in between starts the oil would drain and the feed to the farthest bearing from the pump took a few moments.

I'm going to have to lay up my Aero 8 over Jan and Feb whilst we are in Spain.
Previously when I've laid up cars, prior to starting up I've ensured good oil pressure either by turning the engine over without the spark plugs or disconnecting the fuel pump.
Does anyone know a way of making sure the oil is circulated and achieved good oil pressure prior to firing up on an Aero?

Derek.
I would happily look after your car while you are away.
Every day I could take it out for a gentle drive.

Well I couldn't think of a nicer person to leave it with, and I'm sure it would be well treated.

cheers

What drives the oil pump? On a Rover V8 you can whip the distributor out and spin the pump using an electric drill......

On all my previous cars I've just removed the spark plugs and turned the engine over until it shows good oil pressure. Unfortunately with the Aero removing the plugs seems a major job. I'd hoped there would be a simple solution like removing the fuel pump fuse but I'm told that's not a solution by Oakmere.
I know on an Aston Martin you just floor the accelerator pedal which allows the engine to turn over without firing, I wondered if there was a similar solution on an Aero

Easiest way I would imagine is disconnecting the coil pack, not sure if this is accessible though?

That's a possibility, although like you, I'm not sure how accessible that is.
I'm just wondering if there's an inertia switch to cut off the fuel in the event of a crash, if so if that would be ideal.
