I use the Apple Watch, series 1, so not waterproof but It does the job well and tells me the Whatapps, FB Messages, incomings calls etc. Always use it in the gym, also has the MyZone Anytime Fitness app. Even communicates with my Tesla....., not with the Morgan......

How long before you try to open the car door and get a message saying " This is your Tesla speaking. No chance you idle bar steward - you need exercise. You're walking". With an american accent of course.

The Withings/Nokia ones are good, watch for offers, never pay full price. If you'd like a withings one, you can have mine - 3d warranty replacement: still unboxed. The first two wouldn't pair by bluetooth after the battery failed. Will

part 2! using swmbo's for a couple of days and a shock on the scales has got me realising that I am not as fit as I was kidding myself and far more sedentary. So i am going to buy myself a fitness watch. question is - which one.
It would be good if it was water proof for swimming and needs to measure heart rate , calories expended, steps taken, floors climbed etc. But then I guess all of them do that.
Any recommendations? Well Howard, having spent a year trying to get control of the effects of drugs on me prescribed for Heart Attack aftercare and effectively been unable to do much real physical exercise apart from sedentary dog walks I had become rather unfit. However recently my medical condition has much improved due to changes in medicine and I have started proper exercise. A minimum of 2 sessions a week at the local gym lasting 1.5 to 2 hours, a 60/40 mix of aerobic exercise on machines, weights/stretches, burning around 500-600 Calories and getting a proper sweet on. Once a week a Pliates class to get more flexibility, and I get on my push bike for local trips of 5 miles or so. The above was recommended by my Heart Consultant, my aim is to be fit enough for a skiing holiday in Canada in Feb. Since early September I have seen a dramatic improvement with my stamina greatly increase and muscle tone slowly coming back. I plan to continue with the exercise after the holiday. By the way a Fitness watch won't get you fit, it will only tell you how much you are doing and what you heart rate is when you do some exercise.

Any recommendations? Join the Fitbit forum, spend months and months trying out the different models and discussing them, and then buy a Garmin.

If you do use an iPhone and enjoy it then the Apple Watch is handy. Some of the Series 1 watches are up on eBay now with the V2 and 3 being wanted by the fanboys. I use my Series 1 and it does a fair bit with the iPhone giving me a good view. It can do quite a lot of other stuff if you don't mind squinting at the teenyscreeny.
If you should buy one try and get the power charging cables included as they are stupidly expensive. Pop a new strap on it and you have a nice watch/tool
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

By the way a Fitness watch won't get you fit, it will only tell you how much you are doing and what you heart rate is when you do some exercise. But thats the whole point. Without data, its easy to deceive yourself into thinking you are doing more than you are.

the best option if your going to a gym is a chest one, the machines will read it, alternatively if you want to read it on a watch and accuracy then a Garmin. £20 -30 will get you reasonable heart rate monitor for the wrist.
