Sloany, I have read a few posts over recent years which tell us that the factory supply of this electric pump fix is no longer available. The most recent suggested just high pressure hoses were all that could be got. Fortunately it has not cropped up too often, until the last few months.

Hi Guys,
Simonās power steering conversion in beautifully put together and properly engineered. He has even moved the reservoir in to the middle of the engine bay which makes filling a doddle. I am unable to notice any difference in steering feel between the mechanically powered pump and the electric (mini) pump.
Itās not a cheap fix, but as alway, you get what you pay for......would you want a ācheapā job done of your steering? No, me neither.
Simons the sort of guy who will go the extra mile for his customers, we are VERY lucky to have him supporting us Aero owners, especially as heās so busy with āproperā work.
Simon Simon, how did you get on with your MOT issue, you mentioned some play in the steering. Did Track and Classic solve the problem.

Mot passed, Ian still has the car doing a couple of extra jobs. Apparently the play was due to an āincorrectly machined Morgan partā.......donāt know any more yet but will update when I collect the car next week.

just an update.
Looks like Dave may be right as specialist believes a slipping belt may be the issue. Will hopefully confirm next week!

My first guess would have been to refurbish the pumps, but I know this isn't possible for whatever reason - curious as to the reason why though.

My first guess would have been to refurbish the pumps, but I know this isn't possible for whatever reason - curious as to the reason why though. The system is still hydraulic. It just uses an electro-hydraulic pump as opposed to an engine driven pump Part of the problem with the original Honda/Rover crankshaft driven pumps is not the pump itself failing, but rather the Morgan specific "cush drive" failing. These parts are no longer available by any means short of remanufacture, as Morgan no longer have stocks Simon @ SiFab.co.uk

Since the solution mentions a 'reservoir' I read this as retaining a hydraulically assisted rack, but with the hydraulic pressure provided by an electric pump rather than a belt-driven pump. Maybe I read this wrong, but it sounds like an elegant solution. Sorry! Just saw that Simon posted whilst I was composing my clumsy explanation

So in my case with the S4 based Plus 8, is the power steering pump 100% BMW, or something developed by MMC? Is the rack as it was on the S1, or something more readily available? Just curious. I intend to keep this car for a long, long time....
