Whilst installing a K&N filter on my 2016 4/4 Saturday, I noticed that the live cable to the fan switch has worn through to the bare wire, it had been rubbing against a bracket next to the air filter box.

I have managed to wrap insulation tape round it as a temporary measure. I believe this cable cannot be replaced as the fan switch Is a sealed unit? should this be covered and replaced under the manufactures warranty? or further still should it be a recall as it could be dangerous ?

My local mechanic said he can replace the cable and heat shield it.
I have emailed the dealer on the weekend, but still waiting a reply......

Any advice on this would be appreciated

I'd be inclined to put a Butt Connector in there and tie wrap the cable so it doesn't chafe again.

There is a tool for these but if you are careful you can crimp them with pliers if you are unfamiliar with them do a trial first maybe. I would think the Blue one is probably the size to chose from the pack.
If you have a local agricultural supplies shop most stock these or any auto supplies store.

On my 4/4 Sport Morgan 2009 I got rid of the air filter box and installed an open air filter system K&N nr 57-0686 (Ford Focus II 1.6 L VCT, 113 BHP 09/2004-2010).
Easy installation, simple filter maintenance and no problems of chafing cables; also nice sound improvement.

If you think its a potential warrenty/recall issue then take it back to the supplying dealer. People on here will always have an opinion but only the dealer is in a position to give a truly informed opinion.

As Andy has already advised; start with you dealer and ask them to raise it as a warranty claim with MMC.

If it were mine I'd solder in a new piece of wire and heat shrink wrap it. I'd also put something along the sharp edge, a bit of split tube etc. Connectors can fail and let water in, the less the better.

If your local guy has already said he can do it why not let him? Probably cheaper than your fuel and easier than faffing about with the dealer.

I agree with Steve. If you are modifying your car yourself by putting non-standard air filters on then I wouldn't be too expectant of getting much dealer support under the warranty.

It's a simple problem with a simple fix. Get your local man to sort it out.
