I've got to say if I had a spare £30k, I couldn't think of a better way to blow it than on a new Morgan from Keith at BHM.

And all the bikes will have to go, to fund the upgrade!!! And the Plus 8 and the pension pot, for a Roadster!!!!!! Its a no brainer. Keep the bikes and the V8 you know it makes sense.

I have to say a big thanks for all the comments/advice etc, as usual, good stuff. We are still chewing on the deal, must decide soon!! Let me throw a spanner in the works and suggest that you do not exclude a nice, used, 2013 or 2014 Plus 8 from your review process. All the joy of a modern V8, plus if you want it, an auto box option and a chassis that is more than capable of taking the 367bhp power. I felt that our 2009 Roadster showed that the trad chassis was at its limit, particularly in its ride and refinement, with just over 200bhp. The Rover V8 produced no more power, unless modified. I tried a 3.7, but felt that at 280 bhp it was a step too far, very much in the way the AC Cobra with its big V8 gave the impression that it wanted to bite if you relax for a moment. Fine if you want to drive on the edge at all times. The Aero Plus 8 has, as mentioned, 367 bhp, but it is well matched to the chassis. Like its predecessor, it can bite, but doesn't seem to want to do so. So unless driven in an spirited manner it is an easy drive. I'm certain Mrs A would be captivated.....if you let her try it.

Guys, you are tugging me in many directions. Mrs KenA is very much in favour of the Roadster because it is a better drive for her (removes the hot feet problem and adds she can drive it - both very big plusses over the Plus 8). Well you've got your answer right there, then. Happy wife = Happy life. Get the thing bought before somebody else has it.

Will be interested in what you decide. I have struggled with similar decisions, keep my 2008 Plus 4 which I love or 'upgrade' to a Roadster... must admit I would want a new or late one and the cost of change is pretty scary.

I have struggled with similar decisions, keep my 2008 Plus 4 which I love or 'upgrade' to a Roadster... must admit I would want a new or late one and the cost of change is pretty scary. Me too. I've had my 4/4 for getting on for 20 years, I've worked on it and developed it, and it now goes like dermot off a shovel. The costs are long since absorbed, the car doesn't owe me anything, but because it's so old and non-standard the trade-in value wouldn't be very high - which means the cost to change would be. And just exactly how much 'better' would a new or recent car be? How much worse would my ownership experience be? I can sling my old thing around willy-nilly, I have no fears about scratching or denting the thing, but I'd be paranoid about looking after a new car, and be seriously p*ss*d off if anything went wrong with it. To replace my car I'd have to go to a Roadster and would probably be looking at making a £40k hole in my pension pot - which means committing to working for another 4 years to plug the hole. Frankly for me, I'm struggling to see any upside to changing. YMMV, of course...

"Your Mileage May Vary", Neil. It's an old internet shorthand ETLA* meaning 'This is what I've experienced, but your experience may be different'. *ETLA : TLA = Three Letter Acronym ETLA = Extended Three Letter Acronym, i.e. a Four Letter Acronym
