I agree with Steve. If you are modifying your car yourself by putting non-standard air filters on then I wouldn't be too expectant of getting much dealer support under the warranty.
It's a simple problem with a simple fix. Get your local man to sort it out. If you zoom into the K&N sticker on the image, it says "The use of a K&N air filter will not void your vehicle's warranty" Hmm: What about the opinion of MMC or the dealer? But I have to say: I am more than carefull about waranty!

I wasn't thinking of the use of the component, more of the scenario that would present to the dealer. Try and imagine how it would look from their point of view. Someone buys a car. They take it away and start fiddling with it. They then bring it back with a fault and say "You must fix this under warranty". In this particular case we know that the chafed wire was observed during the execution of the modification, but it's possible that the dealer might be thinking that it's damage caused as a result of it. Would their response be more likely to be "Of course sir, we'll fix it for your and bear the cost" or is it going to be "Well, if sir wanted an aftermarket air filter then sir should have asked us to do it"? As I said, it's a simple problem with an easy fix, why bother about warranty claims for something so trivial?

Tim I was only asking advice on TM, because another guy on here advised me not to touch it, as it would invalidate any warranties by adding in cables with it being a sealed unit. . However, the dealer has just contacted me and offered to replace it at no charge at my next service, or they are happy for me to get this carried out by my local chap (add in a cable) and it will not cause any future warranty issues. They also know about the K&N filter.........I will now get my local chap to do this now, So happy days and thanks again.

Well spotted Craig. I'd be inclined to put a Butt Connector in there and tie wrap the cable so it doesn't chafe again. https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-insulated-crimp-terminal-butt-splice-blue-jh80bThere is a tool for these but if you are careful you can crimp them with pliers if you are unfamiliar with them do a trial first maybe. I would think the Blue one is probably the size to chose from the pack. If you have a local agricultural supplies shop most stock these or any auto supplies store. I have had too many failures with insulated connectors. My Mentor (old Brit car mechanic) suggested I use un-insulated connectors and shrink insulation. This is what I am using and NO FAILURES. You do need a crimper for un-insulated connectors however.

During my career I used these a lot without a failure however it was always in conjunction with an annually tested professional crimp gun which probably explains a lot. The normal garage one's are dire and don't exert enough pressure hence the failures. For underground cable jointing we always used the bare sleeves with an AMP tool similarly returned for annual resetting and these were equally reliable.
