If you carefully read the article it says “The success of British specialist car manufacturers such as Morgan, which produces the Plus 8 (photo reproduced), will enable them to increase production by 60% to 52,000 vehicles a year by 2020, a report by the SMMT industry body has said”. So this includes all of the British specialist manufacturers. Who will buy them it doesn’t say but I guess most of those will be for export as the U.K. market for such vehicles is very niche and not a particular expanding one. As for Morgan, you can buy virtually any new model from the dealerships and a bespoke car will only take a matter of months. Gone are the days of the many years waiting lists. Unless they push the export market I think Morgan are overproducing. Morgans are now an older person’s aspirational car and are far too expensive to attract the sort of person who would buy Spitfires, MGB’s and Sprite/ Midgets back in the 60’s. Even the excellent MX 5’s seem to be driven by retirees. I don’t think many youngsters yearn for a sportscar nowadays. They are driven by those reviving their lost youth. At 74 I drive a Jag F Type which now appears to be an old man’s car!

Went to a Yorkshire Group lunch meet last week and one chap had his Morgan parked outside - he bought it in 1962.
Must be some kind of record. It's not a garage queen either - its several shades of green and panels a bit lumpy (something to do with a tractor and hay bales at some point apparently)
Think its a Plus 4 but it had (rustic?)side exhausts.

Hmmmmmm I had to check the date....it is NOT April 1st. Perhaps it should read 2020 vehicles annual build by the year 52000.

Mr Mayfield is bang on the money, though its all 'classic cars" this applies to
99 plus 8 indigo

Currently it would appear that domestically, consumer demand has starting to slow down.

I don’t want to denigrate Morgans. I love them. I’ve had a 4/4 and a classic Plus 8. I shall probably be looking round for another in the spring but I think the days of manufacturing the “classic” Morgan are numbered. Would we want to drive an electric or a hybrid Morgan? Motoring times are changing and changing fast. Build and emission regulations are getting tougher. Enjoy them whilst you can!
