Whilst I did not buy mine with any hope of better depreciation than a standard Plus 4, which is minimal anyway, I do wonder where the prices of ARP4 are likely to go in the next few years. There were quite a few which came onto the market very early on, from owners who were expecting either more torque or a quieter car, or mainly, both, but now that current owners expectations match the qualities of the car, and Ians post I think typifies this, I wonder if they will eventually become sought after, like the Baby Doll is?

The level of finish is outstanding with many small details which can be overlooked, such as the lined mohair hood, the bigger brakes, underfloor sound deadening, Alpine amp and 4.1 hifi system, even if you still cannot hear it at over 40mph, the gloss red chassis and bulkhead, as well as the bigger differences like the multilink coilsprung rear suspension, change of dash, the Cosworth engine of course, plus a host of small changes. When I bought it, I couldn't help but think that for all its' extra cost, (around £65k depending on extras) it still represented somewhat of a bargain, if all those bits and pieces were added to a standard Plus 4?

This seems to be turning into an ARP4 thread but I tend to agree with you. From what I had read there seems to have been some confusion about the positioning of the ARP4 when it was launched, and I think I benefited from the comments here on TM - both positive and negative. I bought it with an understanding of what it is and have been delighted.

Your points on value are well made. Today I see a couple of used ARP4s for sale on the Morgan dealers sites (Williams and Melvyn Rutter). Low miles and under £60k looks like a massive bargain considering the spec!

Having said that and without repeating all of my earlier post I quite understand that it is not the car for everyone but if it suits then under £60k is good value.

On depreciation I have no idea. To paraphrase George Best -'I've spent a fortune on cars and motorcycles over the years, most of the rest of my money I have wasted..' [now waiting for a thick ear when my partner reads this!].

George had a point, but it shouldn't be forgotten that the cost of a car isn't its' initial on the road price, but the amount it loses at sale time.

Point taken Paul! Also George probably didn't operate under the financial constraints that many of us do.

Glad you think the ones at Melvyn Rutter's and Williams are bargains Ian, as I have just traded my 80th and Caterham in for the Williams car.

I'm with Paul on the bargain front. Tying that rear axle down at five points makes a HUGE difference to the feel, and along with everything else it's a crackerjack of a car..

I recall that it was mismatched expectations when it was envisaged and launched, but from here it's all good. And Williams will look after you, too.

The engine is fantastic but the biggest difference for me with the ARP4 is the rear axle (as Steve says above). Massively improved linearity of yaw response and road contact feel (front and rear) and to me it transforms the car. The styling and the exquisite detailing is the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. Have fun!
