Just reading a TG mag review of the DB11 with an AMG V8 as an alternative to the usual Aston V12.

Now I don't know much about engines, but I would have thought the transplant team at Malvern towers would be looking hard at a possible tissue match to make this a viable donor.

AMG V8 Twin Turbo 503bhp 28.5mpg 230co2 8 speed

BMW V8 NA 367bhp 23mpg 282co2 6 speed

Still makes all the right noises too, despite the turbos according to the journo.

I'd hoped you were going to suggest the AM V12. That would make a nice noise in the pub car park

ah, yes, but will the next Aero have a petrol engine?

How about this model plan, to get from the S5 to S6 Aero:

- Geneva 2015 Morgan announces S5 Aero
- Geneva 2016 Morgan announces electric three wheeler (done)
- Geneva 2017 Morgan announces some watches, for those with no sense of irony
- Geneva 2018 Morgan announces delivery dates for electric 3 wheeler (there's a delay 'cos yikes, that's proving kinda tricky)
- Geneva 2019 Morgan announces Trad with Aero chassis & hybrid power from 1st gen BMW i3
- Geneva 2020 Morgan announces Aero S6e concept (known to all as the sexy aero) using 2 beefed up E3W power units, and a lot more battery, to produce a similar 250 mile range & 315bhp/ton power to weight as the S5 aero
- Geneva 2021 Morgan starts to sell the 'new trad' aero chassis hybrid with 2nd gen BMW i3 powertrain
- Geneva 2022 Morgan starts to sell the Aero S6e, but now with the i8 powertrain

B-)

I haven't done the research on the actual numbers but I seem to remember that the AMG V8 has a very wide V angle, partly to reduce centre of gravity but also to allow the turbos to be mounted inside the V. This makes the engine considerably wider than the BMW lump - packaging on the BMW engine is tight enough.

On that note, Morgan barely seem to have enough room to plumb a throttle cable let alone, two sets of intake pipework, two sets of pipes to two intercoolers and return pipework to manifold.

It's an epic engine, but the shape would need to change dramatically I imagine.

Will, I largely agree, but please let me revise according to my crystal ball?

Geneva 2018 Morgan Announces a run out Aero model using 20 or so "discovered" V8s.
Geneva 2018 Morgan announces a new hybrid platform
Geneva 2019 Morgan announces the Aero 6 and 4 , powered by the BMW Straight 6 and 4, both as pure petrol and hybrid versions.
Geneva 2020 Morgan announces the new 3/4, powered by the BMW 3 cylinder engine and the +4, powered by the BMW 4 cylinder motor. These will be built using a new "Aero Inspired" platform. The ladder chassis is, finally, retired.

I don't get the comments with respect to using the Aero chassis for the trad. Even if you dramatically increase the current volume it appears to remain a very expensive platform to build on. Selling it around the £80k mark makes sense but trying to use it to restart a £40k trad cannot make financial sense? The weight is greater than the trad as well so a smaller engine will result in blunted performance ? This does not match with the downsizing/smaller engine which the trad ironically has already achieved!

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Well the trad chassis is in the last throes of its life span due to forthcoming legislation so a new chassis is on the cards. It must put the price up though, the current chassis being pretty cheap to produce. A challenge for Mr De Roos’ successor!

Following Jaguar Land Rover's announcement that they will make only electric or hybrid cars from 2020 Morgan announces at the Geneva show 2018 that from 2020 all Morgan cars produced will be autonomous electric vehicles on a composite alloy and carbon fibre platform. The projected price will be kept under £250,000 (plus VAT 30% and "on-road" costs) to ensure popular appeal.

Jays, what is the legislation that you mention?

The existing ladder chassis has minimal side impact protection, also the front X frame is not pedestrian friendly. But it wouldn't be impossible to develop the front end to take a M3W type suspension and beef up the side of the chassis.

Ot perhaps develop a new, simple, alloy tub, similar to the Lotus one, or the one being developed by Alcraft.

From what I can discover the Lotus tub sell new at less than £3k, rather less than the Aero one.... And it is known that Lotus/Geeley are working on a new platform.
Combine Lotus and Morgan volumes and the unit cost would decrease. Many manufacturers share "platforms"...
