Sorry to hear about your dismal experience so far with the new car, I really hope your dealer gets hold of this quickly and solves it pdq.

Me too!
If it breaks down a third time, I think I’ll reject the car and end my Morgan “adventure”.

On the (sort of) funny side, as the car was being loaded on the breakdown truck last night, the taxi driver who had picked me up from the first breakdown the night before just happened to be passing by in his cab and wound down his window and shouted out “Not again?”!

Do you hear the fuel pump running when you switch on the ignition ?
Your problem looks familiar with my problem with the fuel pump.

White/grey smoke tends to point to an oil leak.

If it does turn out to be this I'd suggest you ask in no uncertain terms for the cats and lambda sensors to be replaced as neither of these like oil.

So that led to another 20 minute call to the Morgan Rescue Service to get another breakdown truck to come and pick it up - again.
I did try starting it while waiting for the breakdown guy and it did then start up but sounded very lumpy and there was lots of white/grey smoke coming out of the exhausts. ...

Double ouch! Was wondering if the ECU saves a log of engine events that are read by the OBD, or did I imagine that? Either way, it seems a little unscientific to declare "it starts fine for us" and giving it back to you! For starters I'd immobilise the immobiliser...

Very very sorry to read this sorry saga Shaun.

Testing patience and loyalty beyond what is reasonable.

I do so hope that they get to the bottom of this pronto.

Problem now is having faith in the fix.

Do keep us posted and all the very best.

Thanks again for all the continuing messages and support.
Laurens, to be honest, I wouldn’t know what the fuel pump sounds like but I have passed on to my dealer what you said about the fuel pump.
Chris, I will also pass your message on.
When I spoke to the dealer yesterday it was deja vue all over again. The car started up fine after sitting outside the dealership overnight (as it had the day before) and they still have no idea what the problem is. They are going to speak to the factory when it opens tomorrow morning to see if they might know what is.
Fingers crossed this Halloween horror story has a happy ending! 🎃🤞🎃

Hi Shaun

The fuel pump sound heard after turning on ignition but before starting engine, is a subdued but obvious hum from behind. It typically last one or two seconds before pump shuts off. In cold weather I often operate the ignition switch two or three times which causes the pump to run again and seems to better prime the system.

The other sound you need to hear is the immobiliser assuming it's fitted. This is a loudish click from a relay after you have moved the transponder fob close to the ignition switch housing. A warning light at top of dash that needs to to cease flashing confirms immobilistation has been removed. Sometimes it takes a couple of attempts.

Both these sounds/indications need to be confirmed before pressing start button.

This is sounding like a wiring/ECU fault.

Its easy to go over a small bump in the road and dislodge a loose or poor fitting wire.

I know - this happened to me.

It turned out to be a poor wire connection to the ECU.

BTW - its up to your Dealer and MMC to sort this!!!

Plus Richards ideas of course!
