Hi, Does anyone have experience of using waterless coolants (e.g. Evans) in their Aero. Seems positive from the blurb, low pressure, lower corrosion and cavitation risks.
I guess the obvious concerns are, does the additional 1% expansion rate affect the coolant level sensor (probably not) and what happens if a leak occurs miles from your nearest Evans stockist?
Any additional thoughts??

I use it in my V6. You can top it up safely with water if you have a leak....but of course will need to drain down and refil as soon as possible.
It’s not particularly nice stuff. If spilt it flows everywhere and is slightly greasy.

I'm unconvinced by their blurb.
There is a whiff of snake oil sales techniques....
The BMW cooling system is well designed and complex: on Tarka the temperature gauge never goes over 100C, even when on a circuit and being thrashed. The radiator is large and efficient.
The one weakness is a pipe that runs along the V, under the inlet manifolds. It has O rings at each end. If the O rings fail it is a painful and expensive repair.
My tame BMW mechanic, formerly a lead tech at the local BMW Dealership, said that BMW advise using any other coolant than the BMW pre-mix voids all guarantees and BMW Franchise workshops will not work on cars filled with any non glycol based antifreeze/coolant. I suspect there is good reason for this.
Just my two pennyworth, I will stick with the relatively cheap and well understood BMW Antifreeze Mix.....

I wonder if your temperature gauge is the same as modern(ish) Jaguars though Peter.
On the XK-8 etc for example, the oil pressure and temerature are driven from the ECU. The gauges do not show the actual temp or oil pressure, unless an aftermarket modification kit is fitted. On the Jag the temperature will rise to approx 90 and remain there while the car is running...
