Who was it here who commented lots of electrical energy and lots of petrol energy were a disaster waiting to happen?

We risked something like that with the Morgan a couple of years back. The hose connecting to the injectors came off. There was a great smell of petrol and the car seemed to have run out of fuel and I pulled to the side of the road and turned the ignition off. Petrol was running down the running board! Fortunately on the opposite side to the hot exhaust. I managed to re-attach it and tightened things up with the aid of my trusty Swiss Army Knife. Alis, who was in the water for some time following a ship fire when she was 14, was quite shaken.

Later turned out that there must have been a faulty batch of tubing and it has since been replaced.

I was lucky? It was through a cable that hadn't been properly insulated before it was pulled out under the running and juice lines.

This was when I worked in the New Works Signalling Division at Southampton when they were single-lining the main line to re-line the tunnel. They found a stream under the tunnel no-one knew about! No hi-vis jackets or hard hats. Happy days!

We also worked near Brock (Brockenhurst) travelling down from Eastleigh every day with 2 cans of McEwans and a few games of crib to lighten the journey. Dinner was in the Brockenhurst Hotel.

The cars in the incidents are high end new/pretty new.
I have mentioned in another thread about the number of “ageing” Morgans that are the norm. Mine is 15 yrs old.
I take the view that systems on ageing cars need thorough checking/replacing due to age effects.
Hoses harden, electrical connections corrode, fluids go off.
Petrol.......old flexible hosescan age and be affected by ethanol. Seals can be similarly affected. I overhauled my previous car fuel system when replacing a failed pump. New pipes/extra filter etc. A precautionary and inexpensive job but worth it in my view.
Electrics.......earth connections deteriorate, many connectors corrode. Last month I replace bullet connectors to the wingtop sidelights due to corrosion. Poor design of non waterproof bullets in a harsh area where wheel spray hits them.
Brake fluid....recently posted and discussed.
Tyres.....several threads re older tyres.
Controversial (?) statement......Morgans are not cheap yet some design features/components ARE cheap and/or ripe for 8mprovement.

It may well be that the short piece of hose, only about 10 cm, that gave me a problem was old stock and not suitable for modern fuels. In less than a year it was swelling under pressure and cracked on the outside. Whatever happened to it also allowed it to come loose on the connection. It was branded and certified but obviously was not up to standard. If the car had caught fire no one would have ever understood why and the blame would probably have gone to poor workmanship rather than defective material.

I would suggest checking fuel hose as the ignition is turned on to see if it swells and/or exhibits cracks in the outer surface. With checking the tightness of all jubilee clips too.

Peter I hope you are not using actual jubilee clips but proper fuel hose clips, there is a difference. Jubilee clips (worm drive) do not clamp the hose with even pressure all round.

Tim

Don't worry Tim they a proper fuel hose clips. They may not be Jubilee but Jubilee actually do make fuel hose clips.

Then there are the Original Jubilee Clips

Interestingly the Original Jubilee Clips are rated for a higher pressure than the Jubilee Junior clips.

On a similar topic, the second McLaren 650S written off here in four months is up for auction at the moment, who buys these cars and where do they end up?
The first one was engaged in a test drive with the salesman in the passenger seat, the police have just charged the driver with dangerous driving fined him and sent him on a defensive driving course,( well known chinese computer entrepreneur). These cars are not common here and interestingly no one was really injured despite fairly heavy crashes.

Once had a westfield where the fule filter/regulator glass bowl came loose at speed. I passed an Audi TT at full chat with a foot wide fuel slick poring out the rear diffuser, having been pumped and dropped on the cold side of the engine and blown down the transmission tunnel. 20L of optimax in about 3 miles, that was a close one.

I had a GTR a bit like. Without the leak through

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
