It seems I had a rather expensive photo taken

and I have now contributed 120 CHF to the coffers of the Swiss Government.

Particularly annoying because.
a. I am always rather careful of Swiss speed limits
b. I have checked the dash camera and whilst there was no end of 50 sign it has every appearance of being out of the built up area with fields on the right and a fence along most of the left side of the road.
c. Whilst no guarantee of accuracy the dash cam indicates 57 kph and they say I was doing 61 kph. Tolerance is 5 kph so I would have been fined anyway, but swear banghead

Very bad luck Peter, no matter how careful you are they get you in the end.
The difference over here is first time offenders often get to enjoy a speed awearness course which although still expensive doesn't appear on your license.
whats more they can be quite interesting, or so I'm told, me being a well behaved driver!

You can be rest assured that someone else on here will have picked one up during the past month Peter, they're just not as open as you.
There is a lot of luck involved with siting etc.

I attended an awareness course about 5 years ago with Dorset Police.

Reason?

cop "Do you know why we have stopped you sir?"

"No"

cop "What speed were you doing?"

"Just under 50"

cop "That's why we stopped you Sir, it is a 40 speed limit"

doh

The course was interesting, well run and with some great tips for safer driving.

Peter you should have known that the Swiss hate speeding.

I got followed for about 10km by cop a few years only to stopped get and threatened with court for driving at the speed limit.

I got stopped in Norway on the Nordkapp trip for speeding and received a fine equivalent to £750.00.

I really shouldn't have overtaken the unmarked police car in the tunnel. doh One of us was going to get caught as they knew what cars we were in and where we'd been as they'd been trying to find us for a couple of days.

We have a production site and office in Buchs, St Gallen. Occasionally I use a "pool car". When collecting the keys they come with a reminder " The limit is a limit, stay 5kph UNDER".....!!

It's not that I thought it impossible but I remembered the stretch of road and accelerating as I exited the village but not really going any faster than the car ahead of me. I still had the dash cam video and I had not deleted it despite the fact that I had bumped the camera and it was aimed a bit high (making it uninteresting as a video of the trip). I had to look at it a couple of times around the time given on the "ticket" and eventually saw the red flash of the camera going off. As you can see it is quite well hidden behind the building and in Switzerland you don't get any warning signs.

The actual end of the 50 zone is 26 seconds (less than 500 metres) further on.

A nice money spinner. The car ahead of me was doing the same speed, more or less, and I imagine nearly everyone would be somewhat over the limit there. The probably get at least one every couple of minutes. If they average 5 an hour it brings them in something like 5 million a year.

It looks as though it might be mounted on some kind of trailer so it probably gets re-located every so often.

At least the scenery is spectacular.
I've been looking at the North Coast 500 route in preparation for next year, although we won't do the whole thing. On Google Maps on the A836 West of Thurso there's a camera van parked in the middle of nowhere, on a dead straight section of road......
