It would appear I am never far from controversy here on TM but hopefully my posts are reasoned, clear and sometimes with a bit of humour, though of course my humble opinion. I speak my mind you see.
I have the opposite problem. I've decided that I am far too modest, self-effacing and retiring for this forum !
Cicerone what the devil is wrong with a tart? Its the reference to pimp that has my attention tut tut!
David of SW19
David no offence, but you should see the combination of red and white. It really doesn't work. It's clear you haven't seen the photos in the article. I've got nothing against red German cars. I drive a BMW myself. Barlow in his own words is talking about a transsexual car, lipstick and a bratwurst in the exhaust!
I think I'm still a bit modest in comparison to that
Please let's not fall out over this. We are allowed to differ and indeed that was the main point I was trying to make in my reply.
However as regards the pedal car. I personally do extrapolate QC on a pedal car to that on the grown up cars built in the same factory.
However even more fundamentally I judge people on how they treat my children. It's a principle that has rarely failed me and in this regard MMC fall below what I expected in terms of the original repair to the chassis which spoiled an idyllic Christmas present. In point of fact I have actually been quite limited and restrained in what I have published on the forum as regards the pedal car out of respect with MMC. They have indeed been very attentive since and the car was today taken to RPM.
No marque is perfect - the only cars (touch wood) that have been recovered from my drive have been Porsches.
I didn't think that I was throwing the toys out of the pram so to speak - I was irritated that the fact that I had criticised MMC at all had gone down badly.
Dangerous for me to get over involved here but Roberts' "old" Aero was being sold (now sold) by its current keeper because it is not raw enough (too good if you wish) and will be replaced by a traditional car.
To quote section 4 "Use" in the Super Sport Pedal Car Instruction book: "Braking should be achieved by applying force in the opposite direction to normal pedalling. The handbrake should only be used when stationary and is not designed to slow the car when in motion".
Having said that, Robert should have had the car returned to him with the handbrake functioning for which I will take some responsibility. George from RPM is now getting in touch with Robert to resolve this.
Russell,
Indeed the pedal car has been collected and is on it's way back to Perth.
I didn't realise that the post had been the motivating factor when George contacted me - it was only Brian's post alerted me to this.
Thanks for your efforts
Indeed the pedal car instuction booklet - a rather natty collection of photocopied sheets - does quote as you say.
However my older daughter wasn't using the handbrake to slow the car. My concern was that it would roll away when stationary perhaps with one of her two younger sisters sitting in the car.
You hit the nail absolutely on the head as always in so may areas.
If I wasn't passionate about the marque I would have no interest in posting on the site.
It was with great frustration that I made the critical remarks about the pedal car and/or Aero.
The niggles associated with Morgan's are indeed a culture shock when coming from the more teutonic marques. I suspect that one needs to develop the ability to cope with these issues and that must take time.
The good people at the factory are indeed fantastic.
However I will continue to highlight areas of failings as only by doing so will things change.
