Please have a little bit of pity on your American cousins, my wife and I are planning on attending the Goodwood Revival in 2018 and we are looking at the website and the amount of packages and memberships and Extras is quite daunting. Can anybody who has Goodwood Revival experience let us know if these Hospitality packages are worth the money? Alternatively we could just get the admission pass the general grandstand pass and then a membership in order to get a paddock pass. One of the nice things about the hospitality packages is all but the cheapest one includes a paddock pass also. I guess the other question would be is the paddock pass even worth it or is it so crowded that you can't really get much benefit out of it? Anybody who has experienced who can chime in it would be greatly appreciated as we booked our Dream trip! Thank you

I'm just heading out so hopefully someone else will give a fuller answer.

But just to set your expectations, the last published waiting time for GRRC membership was 7 years so if you're planning on coming next year that limits some of your options.

I bought two day passes, it gets you everywhere except the paddock.
That being said it was so packed out.
You mingle with the crowd and strangely find yourself in the paddock.
it's happened to us twice now innocent

you can see all of the paddock on a day pass.
You do get a full programme, various goodies including an ear piece that's tuned to radio goodwood, meaning you get to hear the racing commentary & Aircraft display commentary
Tickets went on sale this week according to my email / facebook pages

If you have never been , it's expensive but worth it, you will do a lot of walking thumbs

If you can afford them, yes.
The prices are steep, and you are expected to dress in period gear.

The Paddock is packed with wonderful stuff, the general admission pass lot can look in from one side, just enough to see what they are missing.

The best place to watch is, in my view from Lavant corner, although Woodcote offers some spectacular sights.

The place is crowded, too much so for our taste so we have stopped going, SWMBO, who with 2 replacement hips, isn't as quick or agile as she once was, feels very uncomfortable.

I feel they should reduce numbers by 20%, even if it means putting up the prices.

It really rather depends on what you are keen on looking at. For example there is a great collection of old cars in the car park - f.o.c And then there are the old planes and motorcycles. The small museum, the stands selling upmarket tat, and the funfair. IMO, the racing isnt the most interesting thing - the UK is a small country with more race tracks than any other country in europe ( mostly ex WW2 airbases you built) so there are plenty of other places to go to watch car and bike racing both old and new.

As for the packages, book yourself a nice country pub not too far away and drive to Goodwood.

Yes you can dress up but you dont have to do so and lots of people dont. I didnt.

We go every year but have never had a grandstand seat or any of the bells and whistles extras but still manage to have an incredible day of racing which is what this place is all about. You get very close to the cars without a paddock pass and have open access to the saloon car paddock and aircraft anyway. We stand between the Chicane and Woodcote grandstands and that is where most of the action takes place. There is only two other events of a similar calibre carwise and one is in Germany and the other in France.

The atmosphere is incredible.

Neilda is probably the expert on the circuit he will be along I expect, he is a member.

If you want to avoid the worst of the crowding it's best to get there early. The "retro" area and paddocks don't really get busy until late morning so get that done first and then head off around the track.

Plenty of the paddocks are open to the public, the paddock pass just gets you into the one with the exotica. The passes do however also give you access to the members' pedestrian tunnel, which can be a bonus. I wouldn't buy a hospitality option just to get a paddock pass but you might be glad of the cover if the weather isn't perfect (which can happen in England).

Have you booked accommodation yet?

If you are just going for the day Friday is the least busy. I have been for the last five years and have never bought a paddock pass and you can still get up close to most of the cars and bikes. Also you don't have to dress up but it just seems weird if you don't! toff

I have been a few times and always go for two days one to look around, there is a lot to see, and one day in a grandstand to watch the racing.

The paddock is split into two parts, the exotica requires the paddock pass the remainder you can walk freely about. The excotia lcan still be viewed over the the fence.

If you book a grandstand book one from which you can see the large screens which broadcast the race, so you can see what is going on around the rest of the circuit.

Accommodation in the area is usually booked well in advance, so you may need to travel some distance.
