A week or so back I promised to dig out some photos of the F1 in Adelaide where I met Jack Brabham and Juan Manuel Fangio.

I have come to the conclusion I was wise not to choose photography as a career as most of the photos are rubbish however I scanned a few which may be of interest.

Autographed by Fangio and Brabham

A Benetton team pocket patch; slightly champagne stained, but that is another story.

Two Gentlemen: Jack Brabham and Juan Manuel Fangio

Photos below Fangio in the silver Mercedes-Benz W196 and Brabham in the red Alfa Romeo 159. Just why Brabham was driving the Alfa I don't recall. Probably because it was a car once driven by Fangio. They actually started to get a bit serious and in the end Fangio spun out because of the hardened old tyres losing grip.

Champions at Adelaide F1 1990 : Top from the left : James hunt, Jackie Stewart, Denny Hulme. Bottom from the left : Nelson Piquet, Juan Manuel Fangio, Ayrton Senna, and Jack Brabham

Becky Blandford and her friend, Lady something-or-other (the blond girl the other side of the bar - can't remember her name) decided to become umbrella girls for a bit of a joke. "I do hope mummy is not watching TV. This could be seriously embarrassing!"

John Player Special on a display lap.

Me on the left. Even less hair now that I'm 27 years older laugh

Below a few photos of activity in the pits.

Great memories Peter!
That line-up of drivers is good - less than half of them still with us, sadly!

Wow, now that you mention it, only two of those seven are still alive! frown2

Thanks for sharing those pictures Peter, must've been an amazing experience. Funny to see a younger, dark-bearded version of you! wink Who are you with in that picture? Family?

Terrific pics Peter, especially the line-up of F1 drivers and the sobering reminder of their (and our) tenuous grip on the racetrack of life. Fangio, Hulme and Brabbham were heroes for my father and thus for me as a boy. The rest were heroes for me as a young adult. Yes, only two of them left.

The cracker of a shot is the one of Jack and Juan Manuel together. Gentlemen yes but grinning like boys who've just shared a smutty joke!

Great post and thanks. Kerry
