Did anyone ever have one? I was always attracted to their unusual design. Never drove one so a complete mystery...?

JPS twin cam.
Fantastic little car. Could corner a heck of a lot faster than anything of the time. Performance was an eye opener.
Bit of a learning curve on finding the best way to exit the car. Ended up on all fours the first couple of times! blush
But, I was in my early 20s - doubt I'd cope with one now smile

My dream car in the mid seventies. Now I think an Elan would be a better all rounder and I came very close to buying one.

The cabin ventilation came through the luggage compartment in the Europa, so full boot = no ventilation.

Interestingly the guy who designed the original Elan ( south african with moustache now designed the new TVR - cant remnember his name) reckoned that the Europa was a failure handling wise compared with the Elan. Certainly the first lot with Renault (?) engines werent good mechanically.

The moustachioed Gordon Murray designed the new TVR, or at least his company did.

He didn't design the Elan though, that was Ron Hickman who also went on to design the Black and decker workmate.

Co-incidentally they were both South African.

There was a racing version with a large V8 Steve. I'd have to find the right book to remind myself of the full details though.

I've had 2 but with a twist. Both were "Banks" Europa Engineering cars. One was their 47R and one was the 62S. Both Vauxhall 16v powered. I was silly not keeping one.

I attended the Donington event a couple of times. It was excellent. Only about 20 mins from daughters house.

I always knew them by this name but never knew why. I don't recall seeing a real breadvan looking similar. Is there a story here?
