The early ones had full height rear bodywork tailing back to the rear, making rear sideways vision even more restricted. Later ones like mine had these "fins" angle down close behind the rear window, so giving slightly better rear visibility. The early ones gained the nickname breadvans. In reality I don't think it made much difference, though I was only ever a passenger in an early Lotus 47 (the racing version) replica.

I don't recall seeing a real breadvan looking similar. Is there a story here? When I was a kid the Co-op bread van had a short hatchback type window opening through which the delivery man would remove the loaves from a head height shelf. If I Google "breadvan" most of the images I get are of the Ferrari 250 GTO, and the back of that looks very much like the breadvans I remember. I've never heard it applied to the Europa though. ~iw

I drove one into and out of a workshop. I was working with my dad in school hols and a lime green one came in for minor body repair/spray. I liked the look. Boy was it low! A totally new experience compared to all the other cars. I’d like to try one on a road/track out of curiosity.

A Road and Track article I've just found, I hadn't heard about this car before. http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/...ith-a-rover-v8/Quite a handful as you say Graham.

Hi Max yes, I always liked the XE 16V engines. Both mine were mildly tuned to aprox 200bhp using the QED cams on the existing hydraulic lifters with Jenvey throttle bodies and a MBE ecu. At the time performance was similar to the the normally aspirated Exige. Richard at Bank's own Europa race car was/still is an XE with supercharger and dyno'd at aprox 450 bhp,

I sat in one in a dealer's showroom in Chichester when I was 20, but I think we both knew I couldn't afford it! This might be a good time to say that The Avengers series 6 is currently showing every evening at 5.00pm on ITV4. Steed in his Bentley of course, and Tara King in a Europa. Worth catching for the cars.
