I could opt for a replacement set of T-Trac2 in the right size because one dealer has some remaining in stock. They are dot 16.16. which is ok but otherwise when I will start to use them more frequently, say in April 2018, they are almost 2 years old. And the only but important negative point concerning my set is that they have lost their initial elasticity significantly (which could happen with another brand as well),

Now I have seen by chance that there is a new player on the market. Dunlop has developed a Sport Classic tyre which seems to be a good product. More expensive than a T-Trac2 but not astronomicly high, more or less comparable in price with the Vredestein Classic Sprint. Available in both relevant sizes, 165 80 and 185 70. I think I will use my T-Trac 2 to the very end, there is some usable wear left, drive them with a bit less pressure trying to have them softer with a little more grip, as good it will go. And afterwards I would order a brand new set of those Dunlops to give them a try.

In Germany arent you stuck with rules about using only tyres that the car manufacturer has homolgated?

No, Howard, the only case I know about was Porsche who claimed some (in this case really plausible) limitations in the past. All tyres had to be N cerificated by Porsche. May be similar advice happened regarding other manufacturers. Of course the car makers have some OEM tyres fitted when delivering the car new, but there is no rule to continue with this certain type/brand.

By law the tyre only has to have the right size and the right speed and load index. So I have the free choice of brand if this limits are respected.

Unfortunately Morgan do not put all the possible tyre (and wheel) sizes on the CoC. This creates a little problem in Italy if you decide to fit a different size because only the size the car came with is on the documents.

A good example would be if you had a Roadster and decided to fit the alternate 16" wheels and tyres. As the Italians would say "It's a casino!", which doesn't mean a place to gamble but, in this case, with a slightly different pronunciation, bordello smile

In Germany things go worse as well and it will meet the casino status soon. In the past I could have all possible, as long as reasonable wheel/tyre combinations of car matching sizes inserted into the document. Nowadays only One rim/tyre match is allowed to be inserted, and only one size of tyre, even if you could use different sizes of tyre for the same rim. So, if you alter sizes e.g. different to the OEM one, you get only this new one specification inserted.

E.g. If I would change for 185/70 concerning the 4/4 but using the existing rims it would be illegal without informing the officials. And afterwards the 165/80 will be canceled out of the document...

Heinz, this is new to me! I have both combinations in my documents. 165/80 and 185/70.

Andre, in new documents only one size is inserted. If you drive a different size, you must have a copy of the COC in your vehicle which shows all other allowed tyre sizes considering a standard rim. The same happens to the rims if only one size is inserted in your documents and you should use another size which is allowed due to the COC.

So - anyone found a good, reasonably priced 165/80x15?
Hankook? Maxxis? Toyo? I would not buy the Contis again, they were poor, and the Vred classics and Dunlop Sport classics are way too expensive for my taste.

I’m using Vredestein Sportrac 5 on my Roadster. Not in your size but so far I’m pretty impressed with grip and ride.

Every time I see the thread title and the spelling of tyres, I come across all Colonel Blimp and very British, Peter. But since I know you arent a septic, I guess it one of these irritating spell checker apps that has done the evil deed.
