I don't tune in anymore - I caught the Senna bit by chance when it was repeated. It went up its own backside quite some time ago, it's a self-aggrandising format now. Clarkson used to be full of insight and his own opinions, now he just seems to throw out hyperbole more and more (missing why it was funny in the first place as it was sparsely used). The best stuff he ever did on TV was his historical documentaries, when he was being more serious. I'd like to see more of that Clarkson and less of the airfield driving eejit.

Yes, I'd agree with all that you say- and indeed what others have added in the same vein. I know we tend to throw out words such as formulaic,hyperbole etc and the sad fact is that the programme has now sunk to this- it s just a caricature and that is saddest of all. Like a lot of us, I've also seen JC's forays into the history stuff but although I find the subject matter interesting, others have done the same subjects much better. I would except from that statement his programme on St Nazaire where Robert Cain ( who is/was of course his father in law) won the VC. I found that the 'personal angle' made it quite watchable G

Gentleman we have on this thread bemoaned the quality of the MMC product. Today I attended a charity day at Donnington only to witness two of the four Porsches present develop issues, one looking rather terminal. Yet the aero, various other cars including kits and Jeremys 1991 4/4 kept on going for another 30 plus laps. The only thing thats worn out now is me.

I did enjoy the Senna piece. I met him many years ago and still feel sad when I remember watching the TV feed on that dark day.
I just have to question why that was on Top Gear ? They don't usually run adverts for forthcoming films on the program do they ? Perhaps I am a little harsh but they are presented as the "big thing" and so have to live up to that for me.
For me it is not bad TV just not good "Top Gear" as it moves away from interesting stuff and into self serving stuff that is less and less relevant to our lives. The speed run by captain slow was formulaic. The star section was the most interesting for ages but that is the issue, most of the others were "insert name here" repeat format. I did love seeing Rubens who is a wonderful man as ever. But you could cut that section out and you would never know which series it was from, where is the development.
The most interesting thing they have done in ages for me remains the motorbike trip in Vietnam. That has a rich ingredients list. The photography, new information, real spontaneity in the coverage. That is leading edge which is where I would like to see the Beeb go with Top Gear.
Maybe I am being a little harsh but I just don't find myself making the time to watch it live anymore. Now it is one of many I Sky+ so I can flip through the tedious bits.
Damn I have just entered grumpydom. I agree with every bit of that, the "not bad tv just not good Top Gear tv", the Rubens bit, the repetitiveness and predictability, the Vietnam bit and the Sky+. I even concur on entering 'Grumpydom'  But the Senna bit was pure magic mixed with a tinge of sadness and nostalgia. But it has answered a question for me. For ages now I've been wondering why I no longer enjoy F1 when in my yoof I wouldn't miss a minute and would religiously wake up at 3am to watch the Australian GP. I now know

The only thing thats worn out now is me. Old Father time catching up on you John? I read the Government were getting rid of Asbos but I didn't realise it was age related

Oh well, that's me still consigned to the outer darkness then  Cheers everyone G Pedal car now returned and fully functional courtesy of George at RPM. A big thank you!  The handbrake cable had been stretched presumably at the fatcory and had gone unnoticed. Regards, Robert

Well worth for the look on the kids faces, and the horror on the parents has you roar off into the distance

'Ere! my classic Morgan was built in 1972, so is much older and slower than advertised! One Porsche lunched its engine and the other a rear tyre. Other maladies were a Dax Cobra with a dodgy relay, a Sylva kit car shaking its coolant pipes off, an Ultima with a lightly cooked clutch and a rally Metro with a pre-bent suspension arm. The only other damage were a few squashed cones and the odd driver's ego, when going for toooooooo much oversteer! The Porsche Panamera still looks like a truck to me. This is probably the first and only time I will ever be baulked by a AM Vantage on the twisties!

Hi Boshly,
Please let's not fall out over this. We are allowed to differ and indeed that was the main point I was trying to make in my reply.
However as regards the pedal car. I personally do extrapolate QC on a pedal car to that on the grown up cars built in the same factory.
However even more fundamentally I judge people on how they treat my children. It's a principle that has rarely failed me and in this regard MMC fall below what I expected in terms of the original repair to the chassis which spoiled an idyllic Christmas present. In point of fact I have actually been quite limited and restrained in what I have published on the forum as regards the pedal car out of respect with MMC. They have indeed been very attentive since and the car was today taken to RPM.
No marque is perfect - the only cars (touch wood) that have been recovered from my drive have been Porsches.
I didn't think that I was throwing the toys out of the pram so to speak - I was irritated that the fact that I had criticised MMC at all had gone down badly.
Enough said. Please let's move on.

 I'm sure we're both old enough and ugly enough (personally speaking of course) not to fall out over simply disagreeing with each other Please may I just add, MMC are not beyond reproach nor should they be immune from any criticism, from you or anyone else ( ). If my posts in any way conveyed that, then I'm sorry as that's not what I feel. I only wanted 'the right to reply' and to voice my opinion.  Totally agree Boshly. Enough said.
