Last week, I pulled into my favorite Chevron Gas station (busy street, lots of turn over of fuel) and filled the Morgan (7 gallons). I quit after the first click and headed out (car had been running great to this point). Within 2 miles, it was running rough (dropped about 200 rpms at idle) and by the time I got home, it was barely running at all. Further trouble shooting revealed that the driver side cylinder was not firing. I determined that the plug was firing but was dry. A test light showed signal to the injector and I had 55 psi at the rail. The passenger side fires but will not start the engine by itself from cold. The 5.2 parts book shows item 15 on page 12 as part SP130023 fule injector, type b. That number won’t get you far on google. Moving to the S & S parts catalog (found on google but not on their web site) I found “fuel injector, 55-5005, 31.3 lbs/hr at 58 psi, style b. This was much more promising and I found 10 of them new in S & S boxes for sale on eBay for $75 each ‘buy it now”. The real epiphany came when I decided to actually examine the injector up close. The part # is 0 280 156 198, Bosch, type B. Lots of places have them but they seem to be between $70 and $80 usd. Hope this didn’t seem too long winded but being 400 miles from your dealer has its drawbacks. I’m going to put a meter on the injector pins to see if the coil is open. If it reads ok, I will pull it and check for crud. I changed my fuel filter in the process and am not expecting a lot of dirt. The M3W has 24k miles on it at this point.

I’m betting you overfilled and she’ll heal herself.

Ditto on that. Sounds just like over-filling. Takes about a mile or two for the symptoms to kick in. Takes about 9-10 more miles for it to clear. In my case I am helped by the fact that the nearest fuel stop with alcohol free high octane is about 18 miles away and the trip back is up steep mount roads where I have to gun it and keep the revs up. Just as I get over the pass it goes away... then it's clear sailing! This has fooled me a number of times. Bad gas, crud in the injectors... etc. Even when I am extra cautious about filling, it has happened.

Agree with overfilling. Also happened to me once after filling the tank. Has never happened again.

I have overfilled once, had an engine check light and rough running for several hundred miles, never had a cylinder go away but it is amazingly coincidental. If this is over filling and it heals itself, I will be a happy camper. It points to crud in the injector, I have signal from the ecu, the injector ohms out and I have no gas. This rig provides endless entertainment....

Thanks for the information about the injector part number, another one for the alternative parts list. Good luck with the engine problem, lets hope it's an easy fix.

Funny I always thought that it was due to emptying it too much, my guess being that all bad particules in the bottom mixed with new fuel. herm...
Mine after a good fill usually has unstable rev's for 1 mile or so, and then it is all fine back to normal.

I joined the overfilled club a couple of months ago. For mine I filled the tank, drove a mile, then parked it until the day got nice and hot. I wasn't able to get out of the parking lot.
I pulled the gas cap out, idled in a parking space for 10 minutes, drove home with it out and haven't had a problem since.

I've been taking my sweet time on fill ups. When it's over I let it sit and rock the whole car by the rollover hoops then wait a few more minutes for things to settle. Then the cap goes on and away I go.
As for thinking there was debris in the bottom of the tank... Well, after replacing the fuel pump and seeing just how this thing is fitted, there is no depression where heavier things will settle. The intake of the fuel pump sits right on the bottom. Fortunately there are multiple filters attached to the intake as well. I think the biggest risk may be any fuel with ethanol. Ethanol will attach to water and will settle to the bottom as well as go bad in a handful of weeks. I stick to high octane alcohol free fuel. The ethanol will also do a number on the fuel pump and help to kill it.
Endless fun with this contraption!

In Michigan it is near impossible to find corn-free fuel.
