Excellent, its not called the "Land of Pleasant Living" without reason. It was 61 degrees F. here and sunny- a great day to be outside in late November.

Fair point but the rivnuts should last many years and are easy to drill out and replace if they do corrode, could not source alloy screws at the time and not sure if the threads would have been man enough (can you use that term these days?). [/quote]

The corrosion of steel fastenings into allow is a common sailboat problem whether you use stainless steel or not. It can be prevented by coating the fastener in Duralac before tightening down. Duralac is a sort of zinc chromate paint and its used in aircraft top prevent corrosion between the fastenings and the alloy skin. No doubt there are alternative names - you can get the stuff on E bay or at a yacht chandlers. Its bright canary yellow so neat workmanshipm is needed.

Thanks for that info Howard. Ever since I fitted stainless bolts to the alloy sliders of my first bike restoration many years ago......and then had to have them spark eroded out a couple of years later, I’ve been a bit paranoid about it!

I've gone for the "Superleggera" look, tread rubbers gone and 4mm s/s button heads with 2 nylon washers, 1 s/s washer and 1 nyloc nut to fill the 18 holes. I think i like it but i need to live with it a while. As a back up i've ordered a 6 ft length of Woolies best 7/8" tred rubber to make 2 replacement rubbers complete with end covers if i decide to revert to "trad", about £20. I'll need to drill the ali tread rail so that will allow me to select what fixings are best suited, countersunk maybe, but will keep the nylon washers to install under the rail so as to keep the ali rail from indenting the paintwork which is fortunatly still intact on my 2011 car.
A nice little winter project together with the braking system pipework change out to brass fittings and cunifer tube, car doesn't actually need it but it does look nice when its done and is maybe a plus when i decide to part with it.....Oh dear will we ever grow up and stop tinkering with toys!

I seriously hope not! What's the point of owning something like a Morgan and then not fettling/improving/modifying it?

They- let's get our geography correct- the Chesapeake Bay is 5 hours driving time from New England. Wonderful country up north just not very original when naming themselves!
