They say that humans differ from other animals in that they can comtemplate their own death. In fact from a fairly early age we know we are not eternal. Wednesday morning I saw a man die a few metres away from me in just a few seconds. I was two beds away from him.

Monday night I went out to walk the dog and found myself short of breath and with chest pains. I should have called an ambulance straight away! I went home and we debated going to the hospital but it passed and I decided to wait and arrange a checkup in the morning. I woke up at 6 with colosal chest pains and we immediately called an ambulance to take me to the hospital. By midday I had a stent and was tucked up in intensive care.

I will be here until next week and they will be puttin in another stent on Monday.

An experience like this certainly makes one consider one's life and it has made me think very carefully about tying up some loose ends in my affairs.

Most of us on TM are of an age when one needs to be aware that we are not etarnal. I was pretty stupid not to go to the hospital, or in fact call an ambulance on Monday night. As it was nothing much has changed. I was lucky.

Recommendation. If you have chest pains and shortness of breath don't try to convince yourself that you just have indigestion get yourself to hospital as soon as possible.

Crikey Peter, glad you got expert attention when you did. And you look so well, which is the paradox. Two of my gym mates, who must be around your age and very fit for their years (one former semi-pro footballer, one a boxer) also got stented this year for angina/coronary artery occlusion - both now fighting fit again.

Crikey - my best wishes for a full and swift recovery. As others have said once the stents are in you should get a new lease of life.
