The issue I had with ours was draughts and warpage over the years. Rather than simply replace the door as an 'up and over', I took the plunge for an insulated roller shutter and it's flipping brilliant..! Should have done it years ago.
It's electrical, so coming home is like reversing into a submarine pen and closing the door before I get out of the car is lovely..

Quite agree Steve
I have the G.R.P. (Glass Reinforced Polyester) electric too, and are quite simply the best doors that you can buy. IMO
G.R.P. has a better strength to weight ratio than steel, is a natural insulating material, it won't warp, shrink or rust and is virtually maintenance free 👍
Now that I have posted that it’s probably stopped working !

I'm way too thrifty to spend money on a fancy door or two........
In fact my second up and over came from a back garden on our estate for £25, including the frame.
And it matches the original.
Say no more.

I had thermawrap, fitted to the inside of our up and over metal garage door a couple of years ago.
This combined with the heat given off by the Meaco DD8L Dehumidifer, makes the garage actually warmer than the rest of the house!
It makes a good excuse to go and sit in the car in the evening!

We habe a roller shutter door.
It faces South East.
It is dark brown wood effect.
Although the cores of the slats are foam filled, it still gets hot in summer, the IR Oven thermometer recorded 40c...
No obvious solution, as far as I can see!!
So it is often left with a 10cm gap underneath...the cats appreciate it. Secure enough, it cannot be lifted as there is some sort of anti lift device. I was told a fork lift truck could force it up....

I had a small gap under mine which I've closed up with a wooden batten. I don't want the mice to have easy access. With cats you won't have to bother.
