One thing I didn't ask was, is it the right flasher unit?
The original and replacement are Lucas 8FL 12V Type 36 350488. A rectangular aluminium box. Some advertised are circular.

Just as a final note, the new flasher was faulty and an electronic one worked fine after moving the holder across.
