I do all my banking on line but my computer will not dispence cash. True, but there's hardly a shortage of cashpoints about the place. I use contactless and phone payment for practically everything these days, even in the pub. I was about to say I couldn't remember the last time I wrote a cheque, but actually I can. I had to find my chequebook in July 2014 because I had to pay for my planning application and Stroud District Council could only accept paper cheques. Bless.

I won't need as much cash when I retire, but I still prefer cash to contactless and using cards for small amounts.
We set up a Post Office account a few years ago so that MrsW can easily draw cash. She's about thirty years behind me.
I still use the bank in Sheffield, but mostly the cash machine rather than the counter.

What percent of the financially active adults in the UK drive Morgans.
Probably about the same percentage who nowadays regularly use a bank branch.
We may enjoy the special feeling we get from Morgans but the vast majority don't.

Nat West have announced they will close the branch in June 2018, just about a year behind Lloyds closure. Very considerate of them though as they have had time to strip the ex Lloyds clients prior to their departure. There is talk of another Horsebox in the car park on a weekly basis alongside the Lloyds one  . This leaves one 24hr cash machine in the town which for anyone that has visited during the Season will fully understand the problem. The local businesses are being advised to deposit takings at the Spar/Post Office which is very busy usually at most times. The local talent has been very busy breaking and entering businesses and finding takings on the premises, surprise surprise. When we moved into the area 38 years ago there were 4 banks and sensible shops - we now have no banks (soon) and no sensible shops. Art galleries and Yachtie shops abound I'm afraid, we have become a mini Salcombe even a Costa in the main drag  . Businesses respond to demand. If you dont use your local bank branch very much, dont be surprised when it shuts down. Same for small shops - it always irritates me when people moan about supermarkets taking over but dont buy from the small local shop because its expensive / inconvenient / hasnt the range etc. Our local small town has gone the same way, as it has changed from somewhere people lived and worked to a commuter suburb / town for Bristol. Banks have shut. Small shops have shut and charity shops taken over. The commuters either use home delivery from the supermarket or nip out to shop in their lunch break. I have signed two cheques this year, both to clubs. In cash I draw out £100 every couple of months. Everything else is credit or debit or bank transfer. I can see the day coming when shops refuse cash or charge you extra for paying that way. It is pretty primitive after all.

We had a Newbury Building Society until recently - now gone. An estate agent moved from a less attractive location and took over the building. Now the CO-OP Funeral Society have taken over the old plot. Not what I want to see on the central mini-roundabout in town. I cannot believe a town/village as small as ours needs this.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Quite sad really to see these Banks deserting so many towns.
Now having said that I have not been inside a Bank for over 18 months.
All done online. Using a card for small purchases mostly contactless and very little cash.
I guess there are millions just like me. So more closures are bound to happen.

Not that this will affect Rich, but POs won't accept cheques for business accounts, so what they will do, I don't know - keep the local 'talent' in ciggies and beer I suspect. That's a very good point about companies banking cheques Paul, I don't suppose the bank would let them scan them in which is one solution I guess.

It does seem that most of us are online people and fairly indicative of todays banking trend.
I guess we will be seeing more branches close as this continues.
p.s. One up side of the Lloyds bank closure for me is that I no longer get the monthly call from the manager asking me if he could help with some investment advice.

I use the bank all the time as i believe face to face contact is important rather than a call centre with staff who have little or no banking knowledge but read of an A4 sheet answers to your questions and to date i have never received the service or result to my
enquirery to a satisfactory conclusion.
i also object to paying the banks large sums of cash to carry out transactions on my account when they already use my money to make money. the banks are there to serve us not the other way round.
also we have to pay for the hackers and thieves who scam and steal our identities in the long run.
if you use internet banking then the costs should be shared by the internet bankers only.
