I would like new front brake Calipers.
Its a 4/4 from 1984 with CVH engine.
What calipers should I look for?
Ford Escort XR3i?
Ford Fiesta XR2i?
Or????

Much better than the original Girlings are the twin-piston aluminium billet calipers supplied by Peter Mulberry. They are made by Hi-Spec, and Peter supplies the Billet-4 range for Morgans.

The Type 14 was fitted to early Ford Escorts and Capris.
I would agree the later Ford calipers wouldn't fit, and without checking, at a guess they are likely to be Bosch items.
Just out of interest, why would you be looking to change the brake calipers? I find that the original brakes on my 1972 4/4 are more than adequate with fresh fluid every two years, Goodridge braided hoses and performance pad fitted such as Mintex 1144.

I've 4 pot HiSpec calipers on my 1990 4/4 on the original disc, perfect!

I agree Arwyn,unless you are working hard on a Alpine pass the standard brakes are more than good enough.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

I prefer the Hi-Spec 4-pot callipers because they give much better feel. I found the original Girlings to be a bit wooden. They stopped the car all right if you pushed hard enough on the pedal, but I didn't get much sense of what was going on at the tyre.

I was going to upgrade, but changed the car. The AP Racing 6 pot calipers on the Plus 8 are more than powerful enough, for anything! 8 laps of Castle Combe and they were totally unchanged. No fade, no nothing.

I use Porterfield Brake pads on My old single puck Girlings with good braking. If I were a Brit I would take Peter Mulberry's suggestions as the products are different between the UK and USA.
