After many years of doing just that, and missing my kids opening their presents and all the magic that goes with it, I'm really glad to be able to say no..
I had a Christmas dinner of a cheese & pickle sandwich with a packet of crisps once, too.
Mind you, you'll be raking it in Lawrie..!! You'll be able to afford some eight track tapes for your new race transporter in the New Year..!!

I worked just about every Christmas and New Year during my 30 years in the Fire and Rescue Service. If I’m honest I liked working Christmas but then I don’t have children. Have to endure the gaudy festival of rampant consumerism now with no excuses!

Must admit I found working over xmas knocked all the goodwill out of me at the time. Worst were the domestics between drunken adults that left young children cowering in bedrooms on xmas eve or christmas day.
Or the road accidents....
We were very busy due to the skeleton staff we had on as it cost too much to keep a full shift at work due to BH pay.
But now I relish every xmas at home with my teenage kids and try to make up for lost time.
I would have swapped any late turn with chunky for a day at Mallory Park!!
