I received a interesting Christmas gift. An obviously vintage package of note cards and envelopes. The cars and envelopes both have a colored painting of what I believe to be a (red with silver wheels) 1934 Matchless Super Sports done by what appears to be D.G. Mackay Jr.

The car in the painting sports the license JC 1519. The box is old and damaged. It has the following printed on the side of the cover. A Communi-Kate Product, by Rust Craft. Made in England. 25 Sheets, 20 Matching Envelopes.

(FYI, 24 sheets and 18 Envelopes are in the box.)

Any ideas on it's origin??

Cheers,

Mark

Mark,

I sent you that item as a Christmas gift from your niece, hope that was clear when you received it! She ordered you one of my last calendars, which can now be viewed online here

As you know, your photo is on the cover, so I contacted her to offer a refund. She was now in need of a gift, so I suggested the stationery set as a substitute present. I had rescued it from a deteriorating box of Morgan treasures in storage, and thought it was unique and interesting, and perfect for you. I hope I was right when I told your niece it would make for a unique gift that you might like!

Regarding the missing pages and envelopes....I am the paper thief. Sent a couple notes when I first found the box, this was years ago and I had completely forgotten about that! (pre e-mail, I hope you will forgive me for that.)

It all makes sense now and of course it is a wonderful thing. Even knowing you used the pages is fine. Makes an interesting story. I am glad you cleared that up and thank you for thinking of me when you sent it. I like it very much.

I just wonder where the stationery set originally came from. Obviously it was printed as it was deemed to appeal to some group of buyers 'back in the day' . I did some google searches and didn't find anything.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark, Bill is appreciative everyone who has sent him gifts since he he been involved with Morgans. So much so that he keeps everything. You cannot imagine how that adds up over a 50 year period. When I see boxes starting to decay, better to rescue what is by now vintage memorabilia. Side note, I find badges everywhere. When I asked Bill about his badge collection, he said "Collection? But I've never bought a badge."
People who visit are stunned by the array of Morgan treasures, and I do my best to preserve what I can. My point is, the source of your gift is a mystery. Wish I could shed more light!

Thanks. You know me. I am a fan. I can say that it came from the Bill Fink Collection! And, that's a very good thing!!

Cheers,
