After resisting in my last Morgan, I thought it probably a good idea to put a proper mobile phone mount in my Roadster

I could do with having my mobile phone in a position where I can see and touch it while driving for 2 reasons

1. Playing music linked to the Bluetooth on the stereo
2. Navigation - I’ve started using Waze which is absolutely brilliant for live traffic updates when travelling - I wouldn’t need it much in the Mog but travelling long distances and touring it’s excellent

So where and how to mount

These were the criteria

1. Hidden from view but accessible so it doesn’t ruin the look of dashboard and interior
2. Nothing permanent that requires drilling or making holes in things
3. Stable and firm
4. Something that doesn’t get in the way so I don’t have to keep removing it so all I have to do is take the phone out

After much looking on the tinterweb I found a mount called The Arkon Floor/Seat 18 inch mount which was £20 from Mobile Fun in the UK

I worked out that mounting it using one of the bolts next to the steering column in the cockpit above the leg areas and bending it forward, it doesn’t interfere with anything and is in the perfect position for the phone inbetween my steering wheel and gear stick

I used a couple of rubber washers to secure it on the bolt

Stewart please bear in mind that programming a sat nav or scanning for music is an offence while driving. These actions should be taken while stationary handbrake applied and engine off. It is acceptable to press "accept" or "cancel" with regard to mobile phone use. Happy Roadstering, loverly car.

My Garmin Sat Nav links by blue tooth to the phone so in theory you can take calls.
In practice it is too loud unless you are stopped

Nice one Stewart but seems a bit over engineered for the job ? I simply use one of those with a big rubber sucker mounts for £4.99 or less and stick it on the dash or speedo, put a lead from the iPhone into the fag lighter socket and away we go.
Usually I have the sat nav on the phone on voice directions and the speedometer app on view.

I'm wondering if it might be possible to combine the gooseneck mount with a QI charger base ?

I feel a workshop project coming on.....

I even think there is enough room inbetween the flexible bar and the outer sleeve to put a power wire

A later project for me perhaps

The timber dash finish is so smooth that a good suction cup will hold on it. I mount the satnav on the space between the glovebox and the instrument panel. I imagine a good quality suction cup phone mount would work well.

I have not tried the one below but you get the idea.

I wanted to avoid the whole sucker thing as ruins the look of the dash

I wanted any technology hidden away where only I can see it

This is a picture of the dash so you can see why I don’t have the space nor the want aesthetically to put a mobile phone or sat nav on it, even temporarily when driving
