My back tyre is almost down to the wear bars so its time to replace it during the winter lay up service and deep clean.

Options are:
1. Avon ZT5
2. Dunlop SP Sport Blue Response
3. Yokohama Blue Earth2

Any thoughts or other tried and tested options?

Haven't tried the Avon, the Yokohamas worked fine, I didn't like the Dunlop; was fine in hot weather once warmed up but hopeless in the cold (difficult to get any heat into it) and deadly in proper cold.
Current back tyre is a Michelin Cross Climate which has been excellent in the cold, the wet and in the heat, including on the Autobahn at 35 degrees and hill climbing at Caramulo. Have also had a couple of Nokian Weatherproofs; they worked well, possibly not quite as good as the Michelin in high temperatures, good in the cold and wet but didn't seem to last as long as the Michelin.

Still have not got my M3W back from its chassis change. I think it is all finished from a couple of photos I have seen and sitting in the garage in France but I suspect the French garage may be arguing over the bill for the guarantee work with Morgan and the main agent, which I have declined to become involved in. As long as it is finished when I get back to France in mid-April, I am not worried. Saves me having to get it shipped from the garage to its winter storage location.

I have therefore, had no chance to try the new Dunlop SP Sport I have had fitted. This seems to be an almost standard fitment in France, as the Yokohama is not available and folks found the Michelin in that size to have a poor ride. My M3W will only get use in warmer weather and I have heard no complaints from French users. Of course the SP Sport could well be sold in a different compound in France from the UK. If it is a bit slow to warm up, there is always the option to run it a couple of PSI lower pressure.

Thanks Calum, its always better to have a personal recommendation rather than a stab in the dark and hope for the best.

I went with the Firestone because at the time it was the only tyre I could find with a symmetrical tread pattern. Normally a tyre has the thicker tread on the outside but as both sides are outside this makes it tricky.

I have just, last week, put a Pirelli All Season on the rear. To early to tell what it is like.

My original a Vredestein still had usable tread at 15000 miles but the rear sprocket was shot, 2 Aluminium sprockets worn out in 150000 miles, I have now fitted a Supermax pulley.

Hi Rog, you will love the Supermax. Sooooo quiet well it is compared to every thing else 😃😃😃😃

I have 14000 on the original back tyre with 3mm of tread left.
So rather than swap it during the summer it makes sense to do it now.

Keep me posted on the Pirelli I have 5-6 weeks to make a decision.

I have a Kumho Ecowing ES01, mainly because it was in stock at the local tyre dealer and has fairly a symmetrical tread. It has lasted better than the original Yokohama, it may be my heavy right foot but that was worn out after about 7,000 miles, the Kumho has done over 8,000 and still has some life yet. It seems quite a good tyre, particularly in the wet, as I found out at Grindelwald this year .

I tend not to use it much in the wet or below 10deg.C so dry grip is more important.

I've got no issues with the rear Yokohama - grip is good both wet or dry & the wear is normal for a rear, 10000 miles not flooring it. - What's more they're relatively cheap to replace.
