Paul if you're two up and travelling overnight you definitely require a removable rack together with a water-tight luggage option - we also needed the boot space too. I meant you don't *want* the rack per se* - you want the luggage space and the rack is just one means of adding luggage space... I quit like Phil's alternative rack and was thinking out of the box in a similar way... a bag that fits over / is secured by the hoops. Extends back by a foot or 2. Kept above the paintwork... * of course if you load other stuff like a spare front wheel on your rack then that is a different story!
Are the Aussie hoops a different diameter or simply taller?
Taller + padded.

Ahh, Paul, the written word - regards an extended version of Phils alternative rack, think of the moment you're placing on the roll hoops by taking any support rearward - As for tailored options I'd like to see a beetle back tailored boot bag to fit within the boot space allowing complete shape Whatever is fitted, It's got to be able to carry this light load

LOL! Yes you need a rack for the “kitchen sink” for sure!
True you need to consider roll bar loadings. But I suspect they are happier taking a load vs the rear boot ... then again the Morgan Park bootlid rack seems very neat.

I've been considering a rack after seeing someone's at a local cars and coffee that they used to hold a spare front wheel. Looked sharp and practical. Anyone here doing that?

I've used much the same system for the stock rack. Two roll tube clamps to hold the netting in the window space. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aaf-all99161/overview/They work well and have not moved. More than adequate to hold the weight.
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

Clamps look great but where did the seat-belts go? I carefully put them behind the seatback - never really used them and prefer the clean look. 😎
