There is a product here in the US called TopCoat which would be far better as a window cleaner as it also works as a wax and can be used continuously throughout your trip.

There are holes in the cam pulleys and crankshaft pulley that must be aligned with the holes drilled into the crankcase behind them. Once they're aligned and locked in place then it makes it possible to put on the cam belt exactly where it needs to be.

I was at a biker shop for this so we snagged some 3/16" drill bits for the job.

For lining up the crank we put the car in gear and moved it until the dowel could be placed.

What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

MSA Classics in Carrollton Georgia is a great place to get your car serviced along the way.

Sounds like one fantastic adventure!

From experience, I'd emphasize the importance of metric and imperial generally and on Allen wrenches, specifically, as well as the importance of a multi-head screwdriver.

As an aside, when running down the routine checklist, check the top heat guard on the engine, the bolts have a nasty tendency to be vibrated completely loose - I would not like to meet with that heat guard popping back at me at 60 mph.

Enjoy and keep us posted.

Will,

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip across the USA. My 2013 car had all of the recommended factory upgrades but I have to admit I was worried about reliability. However, the only slight problem I had was a fracture of the RHS front mudguard mount which was repaired easily and quickly at a little hot rod shop. I did have the car serviced at Morgan West in Santa Monica before heading up highway 1 to San Francisco.

The only time I have had a major issue on a trip was when I broke a valve spring when in Portugal. Fortunately I broke down right outside a motorcycle repair shop! I suppose I am lucky as I have the car serviced at the Morgan factory so I know the people there. I had new valve springs and all the replacement gaskets 24 hrs after contacting them and they were fitted and off I went.

I don’t think there is a better way to travel and see places. If only I had the time I wouldn’t hesitate to join you. I would love to see your route and I really look forward to following your blog. Be sure to post details of where we can follow your adventure. I look back at mine to remind myself of the adventure I had.

My blog is at RH03MOG.com. I’m just planning a trip to Sicily for the summer before shipping the car out to New Zealand towards the end of the year.

Good thoughts! Any thoughts about a daily check list of things to check? Almost like pilot looking over his plane:)
