The Morgan & Co font on the old factory building (on the MMC website) isn't the same as this sign.

We have an associate 'at work' who distresses new enamel signs to appear old.

I can understand while genuine old garage signs fetch a lot of money, there aren't that many still around and there are lots of people out there who like to collect them.

But given the danger identified by Dave of there being fakes out there, I am perfectly happy to buy reproductions, they brighten up garage walls and don't cost anywhere near as much.

There are, however, a depressingly large selection of 'modern' signs which are frankly a bit naff - as a 2 minute perusal of the displays by the vendors at the NEC Classic show will demonstrate.

I really fancy a petrol pump globe. Shell is my favourite......

Red and yellow you see.

In fact I could easily become a collector. In fact I also love old pumps.

But they cost a lot and where do you keep them?

Henry Cole on Shed and Buried recently bought an illuminated AA sign and " renovated " it - it did look lovely and would grace any garage interior.

I love these old signs - but the market has gone crazy with v high prices.

So it's repro for me - as Tim says fractions of the price and IMO still look good.

When I used to go to Classic bike jumbles there were often good signs buried at the back of stalls - now they are at the front with a heafty price tag!

I blame us baby boomers!

It would be nice to have some sort of proof of provenance but I can only find one early photo of the Worcester Rd site

It could well have been a sign from inside the garage which would explain the strong colour preservation and possibly all the pock-marks as bits of metal hit the sign if it was in the workshop

Ha ha - it’s a fake

I’ve just done an google search on vintage Dunlop signs and found this that was sold a while ago with exactly the same description word for word

The seller is faking them

There is a website where you can commission one to be made and have any garage printed on of your choice, custom made if anyone wants a smaller one
