Not sure if every 5 speeder is the same, but it seems to take a few seconds of the engine turning over for them to start.
I used to have a Harley, and always gave it 2 "pumps" of the throttle before starting.
Anyway, I tried it on the Morgan the other day and it started much more quickly. give it a go and see what you think!

Have you changed out the battery, yet? The stock battery is on the low end of what can fit on that car. I replaced mine with a Delco unit that had a third more cranking amps. That helped greatly!
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

Particularly in this cold weather mine takes 2 or 3 goes to start, cranking for 5 to 10 seconds each time, and I have an uprated battery. But once started it will start instantly. Pumping the throttle is not recommended it confuses the throttle position sensor (I think)

They definitely don't like waking up in the cold - mine needs cranking for a good 10 -20 seconds if the temperature is low single figure degrees outside. When it does catch it's normally one cylinder intermittently then keep on cranking until the second chimes in.
As Roger said, don't pump the throttle - it has absolutely no effect on the fuel system but throttle position does feed into the ECU.
It's worth noting that the ECU will only let the car start if the throttle is closed. If it's open the car will crank but not fire.

I have heard from a Euro 4 M3W owner that his was particularly difficult to start in the cold, with the added bonus of the headlights being on as soon as the ignition was turned on, a extra battery load. The standard Banner battery wasn't up to it and was replaced with a higher CCA (Exide AGM?) and the ECU re-programmed to give a richer mixture from cold. Starting much improved. As others have mentioned, pumping the accelerator isn't a good idea as it confuses the ECU.

I don't pump the throttle either but pump the pump
ie turn the ignition on and off 3 times listening for the pump each time then pause say 5 secs then start
this usually works very well for me...

I began having trouble on a hot re-start last summer. Ambient temps were not that hot, ie in the 70F - 80F range. 8000 miles on the car, happened all of a sudden at a gas station.

Have you been able to compare the performance and running of his Euro 4 (when it can start) with the Euro 3?
